My mother has a cozy forced air heater,model # vcr 701a-r that keeps burning out the thermo-couple. Someone said we can't use a universal thermo-couple.If so,could you give me info as to where i could order one that would work.Maybee the problem is somewhere else.Any help is appreaciated. No-- it should normally keep the pilot burning...
How about we learn a few things together, and see what to do next:
1.) Does it have a little device right next to (in the path of..) the Pilot flame, that is supposed to stay HOT (and thus be safe for the Pilot gas valve to stay open/'on')-- This is called a Thermo-couple.-- (Actually a very low voltage generator, that tells the gas valve it is safe to let gas flow.)

2.) How old is the Thermo-couple?-- and is it dirty from soot build up?-- It can be polished-- that might help.
3.) THe Pilot flame needs to be just slightly in the path of the flame, so that it generates sufficient electrical power to keep the gas vale 'on'.

Most of the time if you are having a problem with keeping the pilot lite and you supect the thermocouple. Just replace it, cleaning it won't help unless its the pilot not burning right then taking a wire brush to it helps and blowing it with an air compressor. You can also use a wire brush on the thermocouple if it has a lot of deposit on it. If the pilot orfice is blocked then blowning it out with air or opening it up with a broach needle. Good Luck

this is caused by a bad thermo coupling. just to make sure that it is in fact bad - hold down the button for about 20 seconds while the heater is going and if after that amount of time the unit still shuts down when you release the fuel button - then replace the thermo coupling.

There is a thermo couple that keeps the gas on. The pilot light bracket has a small screen where the gas comes through that can get clogged and cause the pilot light to burn away from the thermo couple which would cause it to think the flame has went out and shut the gas off. Or the thermo couple has went bad itself. If you try cleaning the screen use canned air and gently blow it through the orfice once you have taken it off. If you don't know what a thermo couple is or looks like here's a picture of a generic one that will give you an idea. Usually there's a bracket that holds this in place.

check the pilot is claen and playing on thermo couple ir pilot keeps going out then replace thermocouple

if its lit by a pilot your thermocouple is bad the purpose of the thermocouple it to keep the gas valve open
