Do you know what causes this set to have a blank screen on startup, it started about a month ago and basically the first time you turn it on after about 30 seconds the Power LED blinks, if you turn it of and back on from the remote you then get sound after the normal time but no Picture, either leaving it or restarting it agian then restores the picture...
All Sony sets will stay blank until the circuit is ready to power the tube. If there is a problem detected inside the set, the tube will remain vlack and the standby light will blink. This blinking will repeat a count as follows: Blink count, pause for a second or two, repeat the blink count, etc. Some Sony sets will play for a while then flash off and on. This is usually an indication that the picture tube is starting to fail. In your case, you should see a blink code. If you can update this with the blink count, I can use that info plus the model number listed above to provide a possible cause and the parts required to repair the set.

Ok, first round of info, more to follow...
The problem is withing the AKB circuit. This can be casued by a number of things. Does the set recover? In other words, when the picture appears, does it remain working or does the picture flash on and off? With that info, I should be able to narrow down the parts a bit more. Sorry about the questions, but I don't want to send you down the wrong path.

Ok. Thanks for the update. There is a possiblity that the "jungle" chip has a problem, but I'd lean more toward bad connections on the main board. Or (the bad news) the picture tube is starting to fail. Try the following:
Open up the back and turn the screen control slightly clockwise. This should be the upper control on the flyback transformer. Just nudge it a bit. If the problem clears up, the problem is the picture tube starting to fail. Turning up this control will buy you sime time, but it probably is time to look for a new set.

I'll give that a go and see how it turns out. When you saybad connections should I reseat / contact clean them?
