Power Consumption Tks for your help. The manual says the power consumption is 150 watts for the TV and 20 watts when using the built-in DVD player. The rewiring I did to make it a monitor was thru the cable of the DVD player after it was frozen in the DVD mode. Now the only thing that functions is the on/off switch and the image to the LCD screen comes directly from my HD cable box through a component cable which I soldered to the DVD input connection on the motherboard. Under this condition would I still be consuming 150 watts or something less perhaps as little as the 20 watts since I wired it thru the DVD input cable. Not an easily answered question I realize but what is your best guess?

It is only possible to get a total figure of the power a computer uses by external measurement, i. e. use of a device that measures such. There are expensive power supply units that do measure consumption in the $500 range, as well. A ballpark figure for consumption is between 65 and 300 watts. No software can provide the total figure although there is software than can measure power consumption of a CPU. Hello Lon,
Your copier in standby uses 48 watts. It has a maximum power consumption of 1350 watts assuming the ducument feeder is running, the finisher/stapler is running and the ouput is 2 sided. This will chill to a continuous output once the device has stabilized of 720 watts.I am reading this from the service manual. Canon of course uses this as a "referrence". Not sure what you need, but I did find this comparison. Power consumption varies on whether the drive is in idle or full use. This shows 4 different drives and their power usage in watts whil at idle (top) and while under a load.

you need a clamp on amp probe, a multimeter wont hack it. if you can get a amp probe, you first seperate the wires on your cord and then place the probe over one of the wires only this will give you your consumption. by the way, your approx usage of watts on a 26 inch lcd tv would be 160 watts. models do vary.

Power inverters are plentiful on eBay in the range of $25-$100 US and any within that range would satisfactorily supply 110-120 VAC for your set. These items are also available at auto & RV parts outlets.

Check the rated power consumption on the set itself or in the user guide but I doubt that it will need more than 150 watts at 120 VAC.  If the consumption is not given in watts but instead amperes, multiply that number by 120 (for the liine voltage) and the result will be in watts. Any higher wattage that you buy will give you the possibility of using it for things other than your TV.

All later consumer items such as your set are able to deal with the quasi-sine wave output of this kind of primitive inverter.
Power inverters    
Not all items can use this kind of AC; any power tool or kitchen appliance with brushes for the motor will accept this kind of voltage, as well as resistance type of appliances like hair dryers, curlers, etc. If you are in doubt about something you might like to attach to an inverter, listen closely to the device and if it doesn't sound like it did at home, don't use it.  Also if it starts to emit an odor or heats excessively, stop using it.
