Daughters laptop will not start, has six months worth of GCSE work on it. Only had for about eight months. Suddenly it will not start, comes up with automatic repair cannot fix. tried booting in safe mode but it finds loads of drivers but just sits there for ages saying please wait. Rang acer who told me that they would send e.mail ref a reset (have not recieved yet) but concerned that this will loose all files. Is there a way to retrieve files / additional programs, or does this reset wipe everything clean (running Vista home premium) model BL50
I had the same problem with my neices Acer 5100...Went into safe mode, it loaded the drivers and sat that for what seemed forever...almost like it was hung up....I had a few things to do...and a couple hours later, it finally booted into safe mode.
I was able to save her files, but ultimatly ended up wiping everything out because of the corrupt files.
On another Acer, the same hang up "unable to boot into safe mode" even after a long period of time, and that Acer was a total loss..had to format...
I presume nothing was saved to a CD? i.e. her gsce files?
Doing a factory restore/reset will loose everything.
Try to boot into safe mode and allow it to boot up...see if it eventually comes up...I will keep reading for a solution other than the two here...and will post as soon as I find one...
Unfortunately, Acer do not have a good fix for most of their computer problems....
