I would like to find a site to download an owners manual for a MotorGuide Pro 54 trolloing motor.
I have a Motor Guide Trolling Motor - Bow Mount - Model-71V- 24 Volt. Problem is arrow on top of motor does not align with the direction motor is going about 100 degrees off. Any solutions? [email protected]
A PDF manual for standard Motor Guide trolling motors including the Pro 54 is available on: www.motorguide.com Click on the following tabs - Support then Technical Literature
On the front of the motor next to the direction indicator, there is a notch. Lift the indicator and align it then push the indicator plate back down.

SOURCE: Motorguide Trolling motor has low thrust in all five speeds
I have a 4 speed with 48 lbs of thrust. On mine, 1 through 3 will move me out pretty well, however, 4th is similar to an overdrive gear in a car or truck and is meant more for maintaining a speed with less draw on the amps.
I certainly wouldn't want to take off with it. I suspect it is the same with your 5 speed. The boat needs to be up to speed and then those two gears will maintain it, with 5th being optimal as far as low draw in amperage.
