A carriage Jam is an obstruction between the carriage movement on the rod. The carriage is a Device inside the printer which holds the printer cartridges. It helps the printer to print. It moves back and forth on the rod inside the printer and helps to print on the paper.

When the printer says carriage jam It means when the printer is trying to print some thing the carriage moves back and forth and during that movement some thing is obstructing the carriage to move back and forth.

If you have this problem ever on your printer try the steps in the link provided below.

Continual carriage jam message

Impossible to answer without 'make model (what is is)' which should be written as the first three words! Fixya scripts should offer the correct category.

You can Edit that in and the question will be put back to the top of the list.

Or you can just Google

I'm getting an error msg and can't print. It says please fix cartridge jam and hit enter. I can't find any jam. What do I do?

If there isn't a cartridge jam then it's probably a carriage jam:
However, I'm not too familiar with clearing a carriage jam. I just know that if your cartridges are not blocked then the carriage is likely at fault. You will need to Google this on how to fix a carriage jam.

I just changed the (2) ink cartridges in my HP PCS 1610 All-in-One HP printer and now get an error message "CARRIAGE JAM - OPEN DOOR. CLEAR CARRIAGE JAM, AND THEN PRESS OK." I don't see any jam...

Have you tried moving the carriage to see if it really is jammed? Maybe you haven't put the levers down properly on your new cartridges....remove them, see if the carriage slides, then refit them and check the carriage again. You wont visually 'see' a carriage jam,; you have to try moving it. By the way, if it doesn't move, DONT force it to try and overcome the jam try and reason out why it doesn't move.
Hope this helps!

Carriage jam - Turn machine on, get carriage jam message, however the carriage can move freely if moved by hand. If I close and hit enter, carriage sounds like it's moving, then I get the error message...

Sorry about the B.S., you can move the carriage by hand, and all you need is to clean the encoder strip that runs across behind the carriage assembly. You can wipe the strip gently with an alcohol swab or a Q-tip moist with alcohol. The bars on that strip tell the carriage where it is and grease or ink on it will give the carriage jam error. No calibration necessary after moving the head or cleaning the strip.

Carriage jam

Usually when the printer displays a carriage jam error the carriage assembly is jamming along the carrige path.
There may be something in the carriage path or the carriage shaft may need lubricating.
Check the area where the carriage is has stoped. There might be an obstruction visible.
