There is no problem with the trigger voltage, which I assume is your primary concern. You may not get all of the features you would with a Nikon flash, but you should be able to use it with the D60 just as you use it with the N80.

You didn't say what model flash you purchased so I can't say if it is compatible with your camera. You can't just buy any external flash and expect it to work with every camera.

Hi, It's possible it's the flash tube and that its burnt out. Since an external flash works it doesn't sound like it's the circuitry which is a good thing. The flash tube being burnt out is fixable however it's a fix that needs to be done by a professional. If your camera is still under warranty you can send it into Nikon for repair. If it's not under warranty you can still send it into warranty or you can find someone in your area who specializes in camera repair (as that would likely be faster then sending it to Nikon). That depends on the flash. If it's CLS-compatible (Nikon SB-400, SB-600, SB-800, and SB-900) you can use it in any exposure mode (except flash off, of course). The easiest flash mode is Auto-TTL, though some of the other modes will give you better control under certain situations.

If it's not CLS-compatible, then you'll have to take it off Auto-TTL. If the flash has a sensor, you can let the flash control itself (assuming it's at the same distance from the subject as the camera). Otherwise you'll have to go manual.

External flash units tend to be more powerful than built-in flashes, which makes sense considering their size and additional batteries. They also move the light source further from the lens axis, reducing red-eye, improving shadows, etc. They also may allow bounce flash, which further softens the light.

When you have the flashing highlight areas, press the down arrow on the command dial and it will scroll through various playback screen options until you get to the screen you prefer to view.

Hello. When i first bought a D60, it was working perfectly outdoors at day and would work without a hitch with external flash. However, the internal flash would never get released. No menu option would be of any use, only symptoms were flashing 'flash' and 'question mark' symbols in the finder. NIKON service fixed it - There was nothing wrong with the camera electronics. The little flash release mechanism somehow acted up and NIKON staff fixed it in +- 5 minutes. I do hope you have yours in full working condition by now.
