I solved my problem by changing the setting from PAL to NTSC in the Everio media browser (the unit was purchased in the US but the software was set to PAL).
The bundled software is the Everio Media Browser by Pixela. It makes it very easy to find video on your camcorder and import it to your computer. Then, it allows you to do basic editing. Finally, the software makes it simple to upload to You Tube, Export to iTunes, or Burn to DVD. You can purchase a replacement at: http://www.jvcservice.com/Store. I however recommend you just use Windows Movie Maker, which is free.
No, they're not allowed, but I've found you can change it manually in the registry. Always be careful changing the registry. Mistakes can break Windows!
First, make sure the network share is mapped to a drive letter:
Open "My Computer".
Open the "Tools" menu and select "Map Network Drive...".
Select a drive letter (eg. "V:" for video), type the path to the network video folder (eg. "\\Server\Videos"), and press "OK".
You should now have a drive letter showing exactly what's in your network video folder.
Create a folder on the network share to receive the videos (eg. "V:\Everio MediaBrowser").
Next, modify the Everio MediaBrowser settings.
Open the Windows "Start" menu and press "Run...".
Type "regedit" and press "OK".
Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ PIXELA\ Everio MediaBrowser\ IMXLIBRARY
Double-click the "SAVEPATH" entry, change the value to a path using the drive letter you created above (eg. "V:\Everio MediaBrowser"), and press "OK". This folder must exist, so create it if you haven't already
Select the "SAVEPATH2" entry and press "Delete". This prevents MediaBrowser from deciding a local drive is a better destination.
Close the program.
Now you can download video into the library on the network.
Plug in your camcorder.
Select "Playback on PC".
When MediaBrowser starts, press Backup at the bottom of the screen.
Select the volumes to backup and press "Next".
MediaBrowser should now say the destination is the network drive. Press "Next".
I have not attempted to import existing videos from a network share yet. That could be another challenge.
Answer:what
you do is you press the play/record button on the left side of the
camcorder when it is open to get to the videos. then you use the laser
touch operation to scroll to the video you want to delete. then, right
under the screen there should be 5 buttons. the one to the left of the
menu button has a picture of a garbage can looking thing above it. just
press that and then press yes when it asks you if your sure.
It uses USB 2.0(backward compatible with 1.0) for transfer of files to PC. Since recording media is a flash memory an optional card reader can also be used.
