I entered a WEP encryption key onto my Dell TrueMobile 2300 router, but when I try to connect to it wirelessly (and put in the correct key), I don't get any connection to the internet. It works fine when I disable WEP, so it must be something I'm doing with my encryption.

Dear Friend,
You must be trying the WEP -OPEN.
try WPA-PSK and put in your customized password.
Before making any changes in the system remove all the cables from the router and reset the router once and try to configure the network with WPA- PSK.
It should work.
If negative plz contact your ISP

Thank You

WAP/WEP password not working

These are the two options for your Router. Don't forget to save your settings

WPA is an upgrade to the WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) standard for securing your wireless network. If you would like to secure your wireless network using WPA, you will need the following:

  • WPA enabled on your Dell TrueMobile 2300 Wireless Broadband Router

  • WPA support for your wireless clients. If you are using a Dell TrueMobile wireless client, you can check for the availability of WPA enabled software update for your wireless client at http://support.dell.com.

  1. Log into the Web configuration of your router at http://my.router (or the default address http://192.168.2.1)
  2. Click on Basic Settings.
  3. Click on Wireless Security.
  4. Click on the Enable Wireless Security checkbox.
  5. Select either WEP or WPA in the Network Authentication list.

To setup WPA
  1. Enter your pre-shared key. This key must match the key that is used by each wireless client computer associated to your router.
  2. Choose a key format. This can be hexadecimal digits (0-9, A-F) or ASCII characters (any key on the keyboard).
  3. WPA Group Rekey Interval specifies how often the key rotates or changes.
  4. WPA Encryption allows you to select 1 of 2 possible encryption methods (TKIP and AES) - choose one that your wireless clients supports.
  5. Click NEXT, then Save and Restart to apply the changes.
  6. Setup the WPA on your wireless clients. Refer to the documentation that accompanied your wireless clients, or your wireless clients on-line help system for information on how to setup WPA.

I get a full wireless signal but when its connected to wireless there is no internet. The internet works when connected (ethernet) by bypassing the router, but there is no data transfer wirelessly.

The wireless router most likely has been configured with WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryption key.
Unless you configure the wireless card in your computer with the router's encryption key the computer cannot connect to the router by wireless.

the WEP password is located on the label on the botom of your router. The WEP password prevents unotherize conecting to the network. If some one for example like your naber see your network and conects to but put in the wrong WEP they will not be able to use your internet.

Secure network

- access your web user interface by typing http://my.router (or the default address http://192.168.2.1) on the address bar of your web browser
- click on Basic Settings
- click on Wireless Security
- click on the Enable Wireless Security checkbox
- select either WEP or WPA in the Network Authentication list (Note: make sure that your wireless computers can support wpa if you're planning to use wpa. wpa is more secured than wep)
if you're going to setup wep, follow the steps below:

- select hexadecimal or ASCII characters as the Key Format, you can use either as a string of hexadecimal digits (character 0 ~ 9 and A ~F ) or as ASCII characters (any key on the keyboard)
- then select your desired encryption level from the Key Length list. it could be either 40(64)-bit or 104(128)-bit key length.
- enter four different keys in the Key1, Key2, Key3, and Key4 fields to store on your router.for 40(64)-bit encryption, enter a 5-character (or 10 hexadecimal digits).for 104(128)-bit encryption, enter a 13-character (or 26 hexadecimal digits) WEP key (note: you'll just need to enter the characters that you've setup on Key1 for all the wireless computers that you have
- click NEXT, then Save and Restart to apply the changes

if you're planning to enable wpa, follow the steps below:

- enter your pre-shared key. this key must match the key that is used by each wireless client computer associated to your router.
- choose a key format. this can be hexadecimal digits (0-9, A-F) or ASCII characters (any key on the keyboard)
- WPA Group Rekey Interval specifies how often the key "rotates" or changes
- WPA Encryption allows you to select 1 of 2 possible encryption methods (TKIP and AES) - choose one that your wireless clients supports
- click NEXT, then Save and Restart to apply the changes

then connect your wireless computers to your wireless signal using the correct wireless security (network key)

hope this'll help you.
