You most likely need to update the blueray's firmware.
To do this is very simple, all you have to do is connect the playstation 3 to a internet network and let it update.
Doing that will update the information needed by the actual blueray player.
A TV doesn't need updates to play Blueray. Just make sure the Blueray player is set to an output that the TV can handle such as 720p, 1080i or 1080p. If you have it set to 1080p and the TV is not 1080p you will get a blue or a blank screen.
this player is **** iv even tried to go straight to credits it only loads the menu which is in dolby digital and hd but yet it still dont play avitar iv allready updated to 1.19 firmware as it wouldent play district 9 and now iv gone and spent 22 quid on a film that dont work why waste our time on something that aint been sorted yet at least we never had these problems with hd dvd so how did blu ray win the battle its stupid
Step one is to find the manufacturers website for the Blu-ray player you are using.
Go to their technical support page and download the latest release or
update for that player. (You may be asked to enter the model number and
or serial number of the Blu-ray player you are using.)
Save or burn the downloaded file to a DVD and insert into your Blu-ray
player. (While there are many easy to use DVD Burner software packages,
Roxio is a user friendly application found on most computers.) Follow
the on-screen prompts.
Or if the your player has a USB port, download the update into a flash drive, insert the flash into the usb port of your player, press Usb on the player's remote and the update should commence.
Sony BDP-S301 has an upgrade to Version 5.3 to support the new Blu-ray discs. Download the software here (Click the link). Read the procedure carefully and follow it exactly. Note: The update makes use of a burned, finalized CD DISK, not a DVD Disk.
i think in these modles there are 2 lasers one for normal dvd's and 1 for blueray my stepbrothe plays blu-ray on ps3 all the time and his packed up but normal dvd worked so try checking that or using a disk cleaner (a special disk) and try cleaning the blu-ray disk
This certainly looks like a potential firmware issue especially if the Audio is there on the previews. There are reports also of recent firmware updates causing problems on some other Sony BDP units.
You might want to try a Blueray cleaning disk which you can purchase from any good Audio store first to ensure there is not a problem with dirt on the lens that may be causing this. Simply insert and play like a normal disk and it provides a cleansing action to the lens.
Otherwise my advice is to contact Sony directly to discuss the matter and find out if there have been any recent firmware issues.
The most recent update for your unit is firmware version 4.9 and this was released on 12th June 2009
The support phone number for Sony Blueray Players is 239-768-7547
Hope this helps. Please do rate this answer. Many Thanks.
go to your BD player manufacturers website and look for firmware updates for your BlueRay player. You will need a removable device "thumbdrive" to load the files from your PC to your Blue Ray player.Alternatively you can burn the update file onto a DVD/CD and try installing it into your player that way.
