Ge Monogram gas cooktop electric ignitor will not click or work. Downdraft and fan work not electric ignitor.

You can't modify gas appliances.

Most likely it's the switch or element that's bad. Unless you wish to call service, start with the switch since it's probably cheapest of the 2.

their is no cleaning of contacts, they are sealed units..have to replace the switch,
you have to remove the entire range from the counter top..will take 2 people

Hi, water is a great conductor of electricity. It is likely nothing to be concerned about in this case though, if you light the burners and allow the water to burn off/evaporate from the ignitors it should be fine. It happens all the time with gas ranges and cooktops. Once the ignitors are dry they will stop conducting/sparking unwanted. Hope that helps calm your concern. We just had that problem - the igniter is electric - if none of the burners are "clicking" it could be a power problem. unplug the stove and check whether the outlet is working. In our case, the outlet the stove is plugged into has a "GFI outlet with a reset button. So we reset the outlet and that fixed the problem.

I would have someone come out. Perhaps a gas plumber first. Gas is not something you want to fool around with yourself.
