I have 2 RTH230 thermostats. The battery in one of them was low because the little battery icon was blinking. Did not change batteries right away but a few weeks later the entire readout went blank.

At least two free manuals are online, that might suggest how to change the batteries. I could not reach the manufacturer web site, that was reportedly under maintenance, but you might need to contact the manufacturer for assistance if the manuals don't help.

I changed the batteries and now there is nothing displaying on the screen. The air conditioner is working.

Contact Honeywell and see if there is some sort of reset for unit.

Heat not coming on. battery died.

I had blank screen also. I placed my screwdriver between the battery terminal and battery tab and voila the screen turned on. I removed the batteries, pulled the tab out, replaced the batteries, and the thermostat is working like a champ again.

I replaced the battery to honeywell RTH230B. Heat won't turn on.

I followed a comment from a previous source and reversed the polarity of the batteries. I then flipped them back to the correct position and the flashing battery indicator went away and the thermostat functions correctly.

Honeywell rth230b won't shut off heat

Sounds like a relay sticking. Possibly in the thermostat or possibly the furnace relay at the furnace. The next time it happens, unplug the thermostat from the wall. If the furnace still runs then it's the furnace relay.

I just experienced the same problem. This thermostat has worked great for over 3 years. But today, when the thermostat is in the HEAT position, the display is blank. When the switch is returned to the OFF or COOL position the display comes on but the time is reset to 12:00. I called Honeywell tech support and they had me reset the controller. (remove batteries, press and hold the MODE button, insert batteries, release MODE button). This did not help. The HEAT mode display is still dead. He told me they as far as he new, this was a new problem and I would have to buy a new thermostat. I don't think I'll buy another Honeywell!
