I have an Hitachi 51SWX20B TV and want to control my Insignia blu-ray player (NS-2BRDVD) with the remote, but can't find the manufacturers code for the blu-ray. Can anyone help, pls?

You cannot upgrade it. If it was not made for DVD's then there is no upgrade you can do. If it was doing DVD's and now it does not, it is the beginning symptoms of a bad laser reader assembly. e
Unfortunately IR codes are not available for this player. If you wish to use a universal remote control, try the scan or learning feature to find a code.
Below is what your manual says abour it. From hardware perspective, when you have a disc in there the optical audio driver is active and so is the HDMI audio. To verify, lift the lid on the optical interface and you will see a red or blue light on the inside. Don't look directly at it! View from the side.Plug that into your home theater system, select that input on your home theater and you should be good to go.

Connecting a digital audio optical system
To connect a digital audio optical system:
1Make sure that your player and the TV are
turned off.
2Connect one end of a digital audio optical
cable (not provided) to the DIGITAL OUT
(PCM/BITSTREAM) OPTICAL jack on the
back of your player.
3Connect the other end of the cable to the
DIGITAL AUDIO OPTICAL INPUT jack on
the digital audio system.
