This is happening when the sound card has no driver ...probably you downgraded to xp from vista or windows 7 and now you do not have the suitable driver for xp...
If this is a brand computer ...than you can look on the manufacturer's site for the sound driver ....(for xp) if it is not...and it is a desktop....open it and take a look at the sound card if it is a pci card...and let me know the name ..and model...if it is an on board card ..than I need the motherboard name ...
If the computer came with a driver disk ..and always used Xp ..but now you just reinstalled it ...look for the sound driver on the mother board disk ..or separate disk if it has a PCI card ..
(the pci card for sound is just a separate card ..that is inserted in a pci slot ..that is why its called that way ...and its different from a on board ..one just by that...The on board cards..always have the drivers on the disk that came with the motherboard..)
Im waiting for an answer and will see whats to do further..
