Choppy recording and playback

Our PV-GS150 works sometimes, but other times, the recording is choppy...like little squares...and you cannot see what is being filmed. What is causing this? Can i fix it?

My camera doesn't play back some tapes and when it does it is with a blue background and pixelated. I have replayed it several times and tried to record on it and it seems it doesn't work. Then all of a sudden it was playing things I couldn't see earlier even a video I just taped but again pixelated and then it was blue again all of a sudden. Does the camera need to be cleaned?

If the heads become dirty, “NEED HEAD
CLEANING” appears during recording. During
playback, moreover, the following symptoms
appear.
≥Mosaic-like noise appears partially or the
sound is interrupted.
≥Black or blue mosaic-like horizontal stripes
appear.

When normal playback cannot be performed
even after the head cleaning
One possible cause is that normal recording
could not be performed because the heads were
dirty at the time of recording. Clean the heads,
and perform recording and playback again. If
normal playback can be performed, the heads are
clean. Before an important recording, be sure to
conduct a test recording to make sure that normal
recording can be performed.
≥If the heads become dirty soon after cleaning,
the problem may be the tape. If so, try another
cassette.
≥During playback, the picture or sound may be
interrupted momentarily, but this is not a
malfunction of the Camcorder. (One possible
cause is that the playback is interrupted by dirt
or dust that momentarily adheres to the heads.)

Panasonic Mini Dv 203D - vcr playback in striped screen

I have had this problem. Dont despair! It s a cleaning issue or possibly slight moisture issue. They want you to clean the tape heads. Stick a cotton cue tip in there; i didnt use any denatured alcohol or anything... like we used to do with audio cassette tapes. And/or With a little bit of warm dry air (sitting in the sunshine perhaps) it should correct itself in a day or so. Happened to me (at wrong times of course) maybe three times or so. But never even ruined any tapes that I am aware of. Take heart, its a great little machine when cared for. Except I actually, alas! finally droped mine and now cant get the door open! . . . I was using the PV GS150 primarily by that time, but am still hoping to get the DV203 running again, still pics were really no good on it, but everything else was. All these years worked like a charm, except the few times it zebraed out on me briefly.

Recording and playback problems

Profession diagnosis was that the drum is out of round and cost of repair prohibitive, so I bought a new Panasonic PV-GS500 with a service contract this time! I had actually dropped the GS-150 when it was fairly new and the fall was cushioned by landing on the battery, so I did get a couple of years of good use from it.

I continue to use it as a still camera -- Amazingly, it takes great stills (better than my GS500). Unfortunately, my husband lost the lens cover (and the lens is kind of scratched now), so I would like to replace these parts if I can do so at a reasonable price. Thanks.

Push the reset button

let the camera sit alone for About 20 min,so that the camcorder automatically turned off. I turned it off, then back on and did not receive the reset button prompt.
if that doesn't work unplug the battery and all power and plug back in.

No image during replay -- sharp mini dv VL-NZ50

a cleaning cassette ( the red ' x ' ) will help : if cleaning works ? retire your old tapes , or your heads may need replacement - sooner rather than later ;
