I have a GE Profile cook-top and the ignitors on all four burners fire continuously about every 3 seconds. The only way I can get them to stop is to turn off the circuit breaker

One of them spark switches are probably fried together. Did you spill something on them lately?

  • lincoln jeon Apr 22, 2013

most likely there is water or oil inside the switch. which can be drilled open and cleaned out.

My GE Profile propane gas cook top was just installed yesterday. When I go to turn on one of the burners, all of the ignitors click. This can't possibly be normal. Anyone else have this issue?

Yes, thats okay when you turn the knob voltage gets sent to the spark module, Then the module sparks all the burner igniter. And frame ignition only happens on the single burner of the knob you turned that sends gas to the burner associated with that knob.

My GE Profile JPG636 cooktop has an ignitor problem. It clicks constantly, and all the ignitors on all 5 burners are 'going off'. It happens every 8 or 10 seconds whether we're cooking or not. If anyone...

The most common cause for this issue is from liquid getting into the ignition system for the range. If someone has spilled water or other liquids into the burner knobs or the ignition system it will cause an electrical short in the system causing the igniters to come on constantly when the knobs are off. The fix to this is to unplug the range and wait 24 hours for the liquids to dry up. You can speed up this process with a hair dryer pointed at the burner stems(knobs removed). Once the liquids have dried up the problem should stop. I would not leave it plugged in until then because the ignition system could be damaged from the constant sparking.

GE profile gas cooktop - sparker firing with knobs turned off?

replace your spark module
have you spilled liquid on the cooktop recently?
if yes let it dry for a couple of days and see what happens.
sometimes when you spill liquid on the cooktop it grounds out the spark module and it will continue to spark until it drys.
let me know if you need more help

Have a four burner gas GE Profile cooktop. How do

The igniter module is working fine. One of the switches (which are on each valve shaft) is stuck or shorted out. Pull a wire off each one at a time to determine which one is bad. Careful! 120 volts to each wire. Also, this can happen after you spill water into the valve area, if that sounds right, let it dry out.

Gas cooktop starter continues firing

Turn your gas valve on, but leave your unit unplugged for a few days. You can light your burners in the meantime with a lighter so you can cook. Usually this problem is caused by moisture getting into one of your ignitor switches which are under your burner knobs. Most of the time the switch dries out and you can plug your unit back in after a few days. If it still keeps firing then you will have to replace one or more of your ignitor switches. Usually a very difficult job as most gas cooktops are now sealed burner units which means the top of your cooktop is bolted down to the burners with several screws or nuts that heat up with usage and become almost impossible to remove, without having to drill out the screws, or chiseling off the nuts. Be careful of boilovers or cleaning around the knobs with too much water to prevent this from happening again. Also get a surge protector at least 2000 joules or higher to prevent damage to you spark module. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

One igniter won't work right on my gas cooktop.

If you're not getting the ignitor sparking (you should hear it) when you turn the burner knob on for that burner, it could be that either the ignitor is dirty or caked with some gunk and needs to be cleaned.

The other issue could be that the ignitor is faulty and needs to be replaced. If you want to confirm a faulty ignitor before ordering a new one, you can swap it out with one of the other ignitors on the cook top. Be sure to unplug the cook top from the outlet thou, to prevent getting a shock, as those little sparkers can give you a pretty good jolt!

Just remove the grates and burners to get at the ignitor for cleaning it. To get at the ignitor, youll need to go under the cabinet or counter that the cooktop is installed on in order to remove the ignitor and swap it with one of the other ones. You'll see that these are held in place with a retaining clip you can remove with a flat bladed screwdriver, etc.

If you find that the one that isn't working is faulty, you can order one from your local appliance service store, or get one online. www.searspartsdirect.com lists parts for almost every appliance there is, just enter in the full model number to get a parts list, etc.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

One of 4 burners doesn't spark/light -- GE JGP979 Cook Top

I am going to assume you hear the "clicking" sound when you try to light the burner.
open the top of the stove. there are four burner. look at the one that is not lighting. use a straighten paper clip open the holes that is directly in-front of the tube that is facing the center of ignitor.
also make sure that the air vent directly behind the knob is fully open.

G.E Profile gas cook top #JGP640 ignitor.

It is sparking because the module does not sense the heat which would normally cause the sparking to stop.

It can be caused by a poor ground, make sure the ignitor at that burner is clean and free from any obstructions. If it is then it could either be a defective ignitor or spark module.
