Carriage Jam HP 8500 printer/fax/copier. Carriage Jam message, have inspected printer from all angles, cannot see any paper jammed anywhere. Tried turning printer off and on to reset, still have a carriage jam message and will not allow me to print. Rolled the rollers by hand to find any jams, still nothing.... Thanks

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.

Follow the steps for fix HP Printer Carriage Jam

  • Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
  • Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
  • Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

It may be the print head carriage, its usually a chrome bar which runs across the printer transporting the print head from left to right.

Normally they're greasy, a light, white electrical grease. It may have been rubbed off at one end.

Try opening the cartridge door, does the cartidge move to the middle for extraction, if not try and tease it along. Assuming you've been able to move it, ensure there's no build up of dust or dry patches on the bar.....................Good luck.

If the printer thinks it has a Carriage jam, you might want to try removing the ink cartridges and then putting them back. It's possible they got bumped out of place during the paper jam. Hope you can figure it out!

Carriage Jam problem. Have gone through complete troubleshooting routine, but the message just won't go away. Says ""Carriage Jam". No debris to left or right of carriage. In fact, the jam was in the paper...

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

My printer is saying "Carriage Jam" and that I should remove Jam and press okay. I can not see a jam anywhere and have tried everything. Do you have any suggestions?

There are a number of things that can cause a carriage jam. To prevent it from recurring, one should keep in mind a number of things.
Always ensure that the paper tray is not overloaded as this might result in the paper being stuck inside.
Also the paper being used should be as per the manufacturer's recommendations.
Turn off the printer when removing bits of paper.
If there is a broken gear, do not repair it yourself. Call an expert technician to mend it. get more help for HP Carriage Jam .

My brand new hp 8500 wireless office ink jet printer say open the carriage access door clear the jam. We took the small 2 ink cartiages out and put them in again and this keeps come up.What do we do now?...

Why are you taking out the ink cartridges??
The message says to open the carriage access door and clear the jam. The printer thinks that paper is stuck in the paper path, see if you can find it. I believe that there is also a rear door on that printer, remove it and look inside.

HP Pro 8500 printer has carriage jam. I have opened every door and there is no paper jam.

Sometimes the paper gets caught inside the printer all the way to the right (or left) of the print carriage. You will miss seeing it because the print carriage has moved the jamed paper to the right (or left) out of view. Carefully and manually move the print carriage to the opposite side and you might find small pieces of jammed paper there.
