A message appears on the screen saying the tv will shut down and to check the air flow.
I can hear a fan running and feel air blowing out of the side near the lamp. When the tv shuts down, the fan stops. Then a yellow light labeled "status" is illuminated. If I try to turn the tv on again, the process repeats as above.
The tv has plenty of room between it and the walls; and the room itself is huge. The room teperature is a steady 75 degrees.
It seems the TV is shutting down from overheating but does not seem overly warm and this happens sometimes in the morning when the TV has been off all night.
In the 65" TVS there are 4 or more fans One of these is not functioning Probably the one over the power supply itself This will cause it to heat very quickly and shut down in a matter of about 20 seconds.
only way to find out which fan is not working isw to remove the back.

Make sure you don't have any unecessary programs loading up into windows when your laptop boots up. The next time the system randomly reboots check to see if the laptop feels a bit warmer then normal. Could be that your air vents are being blocked by dust. That would cause the air not to flow properly. Take a can of air and blow the vents clear so the air can flow properly and that would take care of the problem.
They had some stupid problems with these sets---If you know how to remove the lamp---it is customer replaceable--take it out and examine it. Shut set off first and wait a few minutes for the lamp fan to turn off. Unplug set and locate and remove lamp. Some of these sets had a lamp (it is in a cartridge like a box) that they covered openings on the housing with a screen like material (like window screen). One side of the lamp has a fairly small narrow strip of this and it blocks up with dust from the fan which is trying to keep it cool---if the screen is blocked up you will see it; Do not touch the face of the lamp when you handle it--if you find yours has a screen like material--clean it off with a brush and put it back--the later replacement version of this lamp has a screen that is coarse and does not block up with dust---on a couple of these I removed the blocked up screen material until I could get the newer lamp so the customer could continue to use it--if cleaning the dirt off works you may have to do it from time to time--depends on environment--the fan tends to pull dust and such out of the air and right into the lamp---

Mitsubishi has had some problems with these sets with the lamp cartridge(google the model number and look for how to replace lamp instructions) On some of the lamp cartridges they covered several openings with a fine screen like material---one is narrow and completely blocks up with dust---this will trigger the air flow message--if you get the lamp out and this screen is blocked, carefully clean the dirt off with a brush---if you don't get it soon enough it will kill the lamp----the replacement lamps for these sets use a bigger mesh that does not block with dirt---it blocks because there is a fan the pulls air and dirt into the set to cool the lamp during operation.
NEVER TOUCH THE FRONT GLASS OF THE LAMP WITH YOUR HAND

This could be a variant of, or a newer (or older) version of the "DMD fan failure" message.
Symptoms I had are, I stop hearing a fan when the message is displayed.
Then the temp LED keeps flashing RED until I either try to turn the TV on again,
Or turn MAIN power off/on again. BUT it repeats when I try to turn the TV on.
The picture appears normal until this happens ( about 15 sec.)
The solution is to FORCE a normal shutdown by hitting the TV off button
before the message appears.
You should see the power LED flashing RED/GREEN (cool down) and then RED (standby).
most rear projectors will turn themselves off whenever the lamp is dead. what we call protective mode. in this case the yellow light may be for the lamp. otherwise check if all the fan are working properly. But MAKE SURE you let sufficient time for the tv to cool off before unplugging the main.
First I would suggest that you re-seat the bulb and then check the cooling fan, and air flow path. In addition to checking the fan make sure all air flow ingress and egress vent are unobstructed.
