I've got a Shark Model GI468 10 When I connect the iron to the outlet it switches on and off....I noticed the cord started heating up really bad where it starts (closest to the iron) Seems like it has melted and will not turn on at all anymore... Any suggestions??? I also tried taking it apart and it seems to be tougher than nails to do that...

How to repair my Shark professional 1600 watt iron that wont turn on at home

it could be a bad connection, a bad switch or a bad heating element. It must be disassembled to determine what the problem is. You might look up your model on a parts site and see if they have a breakdown picture. If they do not and do not sell parts, you have your answer. They are considered throw aways.

If the iron doesn't heat, make sure 1) power is on to the outlet, 2) check the electrical cord and 3) check the thermostat and replace if necessary. Use the VOM.

The power cord on my Shark model #G146810 is loose and doesnt heat, can this problem be fixed?

Hi!!
It should be an access plate fasten by a couple of screws right below the power cord, remove them and fix the cord's terminals/contacts or the cord itself.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Iron has stopped heating

Check the power connection, the power cord to the heating coil. If there is no suppy then check the bimetal contact of the temperature setting switch, if voltage comes to coil without heating, the coil can be open .
You will have to use a multimeter in Ohms range to check the continuity of the coil.
Have to decide is coil is open about the cost of coil to that of a new iron.
