My problem is driving me crazy! I have a Sony Vaio FW 400 series. I switch my machine on, the green power light comes on, it then flashes orange and the machine goes off, then it comes back on automatically and stays on but all i get is a blank screen, no HD light just nothing! Cant get into BIOS

Possible hard disk failure or hard disk controller failure.
if you feel confident remove the hard disk and replace - obviosuly make sure that there is not power running and remove the battery - replace hard disk then battery then power and try again.

Do you get any beeps? is the hard disk clicking? listen carefully to it and post your findings.

Try to go to another place where there is free WIFI like Starbucks or similar place.

If the computer can connect there, the the problem is with the WEP KEY on your modem/router. You need to update this key on your computer's wireless connections.

We need to know what operating systems do you have and what kind of modem/router do you have to help you more.

Unplug from A/C adapter & remove battery and let sit fo a while..
Put battery back and plug in the A/C adapter, then turn back on.

you can call sony so they can send you an onsite tech to repair the dc in port. i think its a known issue for that series of vaio
