Pull cord broke on my craftsman gas push edger. I replaced cord but when I pull cord..It wont rewind but I can hear it trying to start

  • Anonymous May 06, 2010

I dont see a spring to rewind unless it's internal to the spool. There is a small metal tab coming out of the inside of the spool. My Craftsman walk-behind is a model 536.797513. I have a picture of the rewind housing if that would help

It sounds like you did not properly rewind the spring that is behind the spool that the cord would around, that spring is what rewinds the cord after pulling the cord.

My craftsman incredi-pull gas powered trimmer/edger's string wont go back in

The rewind is sticking due to congealed grease, take the rewind off (as a complete unit) soak in hot strong soapy water pulling the string in and out to help flush the dirty grease out from around the pulley and spring. Once you feel it is cleaned allow it to dry and then apply a squirt or two of a dry lube like the graphite used for locks.

Pull cord stuck in the out position

this can be caused by sevral things inside the pull cord hub assembly. examples: Dirty inside & needs taken apart & cleaned. something logged inside, plastic spool tabs broke, spring/s broke, levers broke or any of these items could just be to worn. replacement parts should be available.

32cc Craftsman Brushwacker

You have to take the machine apart. The first thing is to separate the shaft from the engine. Then take off the shaft driver. There is a screw in the end. It takes a #15 TORX screwdriver. Once that is off, you have to spin off the clutch. To do that, hold the engine somehow and remove the clutch counter-clockwise. With that off, you can then remove the engine from the molding at the other end. The spool will be sitting on the rewind spring so BE CAREFUL. If the spring comes out it will be a big pain! Just lift the spool off, replace the rope and attach as the old one was. Now, you have the rope connected. Place the spool on the spring. Place the rope in the notch at the edge of the spool and slowly wind the spool on the spring. When you have it wound as far as you want, take the rope from the notch and into the spool. Allow the rope to rewind onto the spool. Put everything back as it was before you started and you have finished...Good luck...Lee

Craftsman 17" 25cc Trimmer...pull cord stuck

it's doubtful that bad gas caused this, it sounds like the cord was back-lashed and partially came off the recoil pulley. Remove the recoil cover and ensure the cord is all on the pulley, make sure the rewind mechanism works smoothly before re-installing.

REplacing the pulling cord on a gas trimmer

those are usaully under your pull start cover and if its broke you can buy a new rope but if its broke near handle i would open it and retie it to save ya money. but remember to wind spring a little to keep tension on it before pushing it through the hole for handle.
