I finally got my video card to show the picture but I stil have trouble playing sound. It keeps saying that I don't have a sound device plugged in but there are working speakers in the monitor. YOU DO know XP is dead right, no MS support now
and that the MS plug and play servers are shutting down now .
(I have inside info on that) that means what, this moment forward
devices you add or install fresh XP things will FAIL. !!!
what is XP, ? the Operating system by Microsoft?
MS-XP? OS?
XP is a problem but can run, off internet safely.
no PC stated at all ,just a monitor

if the sound is bad, I can see what you have there,at all
the speaker in the monitor only need the small cable to do that
a 3.5mm phone mini connectors is it.
plugged in to your ustated PC , jack marked speakes
next YOUR XP OS must have the correct sound card (chip)
driver loaded or sound will be dead, in all cases.

why not tell pc name and model first then say sounds deAD.
then show the device manager page, on sound.
XP key strokes are convoluted here.
click start, then control panel.
click system
click hardware.
click device manger, (wthew) pant pant... xp sux

lucky you I have and old XP laptop (relic) that works like new.
but the c-media sound chip fails. (only eMachines his it)
when I fresh load XP this chip fails (and others)
that is the no and future of XP,
what we so is hand load it from the makers support
site, but you never once told what PC you have. why?

i can teach you how easy.

on mine i down load the intel sound chip driver
or go to emachine side do same
or if HP machine (is it) we get it from there if pc is under 10 years old. if not oops. we must go to intel.
or what your MFG codes and DEV codes is , ask me.
i can decode them all. ask
this is my xp failing on sound
the XP cant even tell it is sound just other devices,
and is in yellow, Red or unknown words
all mean the driver is missing
mine below is intel sound.
mfg 8086 = intel
dev 24d5 is intel's sound chip...
so there are 2 ways to fix a fail like below.
tell me what PC you have maker and model number full
or tell me your codes below. and ill get you your driver.

SOURCE: I had a Compaq FP 7020 (Carbon, Silver) 17 in.

It sounds like the screen is bad. A quick search with the model number and "LCD Screen" will show you that it would be cheaper to purchase a new monitor.

If it was the back light it would be an easier repair. But you are saying it does not come on at all so that is telling me the screen itself is bad.

Hope this helps! Please rate my answer :) Thanks!

How do i get the OSD lock to stop flashing on my screen?

mcadams_alic, Mostlikely a problem inside unit. After visiting this web site: http://www.lesliewong.us/blog/2005/05/02/hp-pavilion-f1703-flat-panel-display-blackout-solution/ you may then understand why your unit is acting "strange"!!! Your lcd monitor isn't any different than any other brand in it's basic design and operation. When very strange stuff starts appearing on the screen of any CCFLback-lit lcd monitor the first place all lcd technicians would look will be the monitor's "switch-mode-power-supply!!!! hope this helps. 12fixlouie

A menu keeps flashing on my monitor so fast I can not read it and it will not stop. Black box with grey edge. Compaq 5017M monitor

mrsrobins849, if monitor manufacturing date (on rear of unit) is anywhere close to 2003-2004 then trade unit for new wide screen only if problem of flashing "menu" goes away when you connect a borrowed substitute monitor to your pc. Will your monitor "act" same when connected to "known-good" "fully-booted" pc that will display the WIN-desktop?? Most problems with "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" "back-lit" lcd monitors can be attributed to their internal or external "switch-mode-power-supply" DC voltages degrading over time with use.

The vertical lines/bar are sign of bad T-CON (LCD controller driver) board is bad, it is part of the LCD panel assembly, new screen will be needed, not worth it. You may try reseating the ribbon cable at the panel.

Someone gave me this monitor but without a manual. How do I make the speakers work and what are the three buttons on the front for?

One can usually identify the purpose of front panel buttons just by trying to use them. However, you may need to download a driver specific to this piece of hardware in order to make it fully functional. Here's a link.

http://www.nodevice.com/driver/5017/get31112.html

As for the speakers not working, there are several possible explanations for this. For example, installing the driver may bring them online. More likely though you need to make sure there's an audio cable connected to the back of the monitor and plugged into the appropriate audio port on the back of your computer. Good luck.

Won't turn on... keeps "going to sleep"

Try another monitor on the computer, if it works properly then you know that the original monitor is the issue.

If the 2nd monitor gives you the same issue then you know its a problem with the computer. At that point, unseat and reseat the memory. Try another power supply. If the monitor still shows sleep mode then the motherboard in the computer is bad.
