Last Christmas I bought a used Lenovo T400 for my daughters birthday this month. I stored it. Now when I boot it up to check its OK, I find that it seems to require a password for access. I don`t have contact with the seller anymore. How do I get access/the password please ? I want to give it to my daughter checked and all operating ! cheers

I understand that you can't access your lenovo because it's locked. Since you can't access it anymore, we should reset it to default settings so that your laptop's system will be refreshed.
The process of resetting a laptop to factory settings wipes off the contents of the computer's hard drive. This is ideal for those who wish to delete personal information before selling their laptops and those who need to eliminate some computer problems. Some manufacturers save the system restore files on a small partition on the hard drive, while others provide disks containing these files. Regardless of the method you use, the system restore process could last from 45 minutes to an hour.
1. Back up your files. Save important documents, pictures and music to removable storage media, such as a flash drive or a CD. 2. Place your recovery disk into the disk drive and restart your laptop. This will launch a program to guide you through the system recovery process. Follow the directions onscreen to restore the laptop to factory settings. 3. Access the system recover files stored on the hard drive. Restart your computer. Watch the black screen for instructions on which function key to press to access the computer management module. The function key used varies by manufacturer, but the keys commonly used are F2, F8, F10 and F11. Select the option to reset the computer from the list of options in the management module. Follow the directions to begin the process. 4. Wait for the computer to complete the process. This could last up to an hour. The program may prompt you to restart the computer at the end of the process. If you reset the laptop with system restore disks, make sure you remove the disks from the disk drive before you restart the system. I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you.
I see that your Thinkpad T400 machine is locked and you are unable to make use of the machine.
to be able to unlock the machine power the system on once turned ON you will see a Lock icon on the center of the screen just press and hold down the FN key for at least 5-7 seconds or if possible untill the lock icons shows that it is unlocked.
I purchased a Leapfrog Leapster in end of June sales last year for my daughter's birthday in October 2008. When she first turned it on it froze but after restarting played fine for 2 hrs then died and refused to work again. Fortunately I had kept my receipt (Target) but was still worried about it having been 4 months prior. They ended up giving me a store credit as they no more in stock at that store and I picked one up from another Target without having to pay the difference between my original sale price. I know you don't have the receipt but you could contact the place of purchase and ask them even if they are able to send off for repairs or put you in contact with the right people. Hope it helps a little ...
