More than likely your t.v has bad capacitors that power up the light bulbs that light up the screen. I had the same problem with a similar Polaroid t.v. and replaced two bad capacitors and that solved the problem. Take the back off of the t.v. and look for capacitors that are bulged at the top. The capacitors have the model number on the side. I found replacement capacitors at www.digikey.com for a very low price. You likely have a LCD set there which may likely use a back light inside to light the image, get the room as dark as you can and with a flashlight illuminate the screen from a angle, with set on if you can see the faint image on the screen of the program you have a Backlight issue'

1. Voltage not there or not being switched on for backlight.

2. Actual back light bad.

If the image can be seen with a flashlight one of the above is the issue and your "picture will appear very faintly" also suggests this.

the only way to know is guess and install a replacement board or boards if you can even find them--this is the nature of these types of sets and oh Yes, it does not have to be a board as a display panel is not impossible.

This is a common problem with this model you need a new main board. You can google around to find a part number, I would recommend getting the part number from the main board in the TV to guarantee compatibility. It will need replacement. My TV done the same thing and they told me it was the control box for $222.99 and to return the old one I'll get $100.00 back on my card and if some reason you no longer have that card you will not receive you $100.00 back it will only go on that card that's it . the part is understood no guarantees and no refunds at all. So after going to view consumer affairs I would not repair their product they are catching on fire and I called them right back and I ask them, did they know about this and they told me yes but all they do is sell parts for it and no there are no guarantee that its not going to catch on fire. He said that's like me telling you that your going to win the lottery tonight I have no I deal if you will are not. I asked why is there not a recall on them? He said, do you realize how many televisions are sold right now, well besides you need to contact polaroid on that anyways. Even though the insert sheet that comes with the TV on the front of it says NEED HELP? and phone numbers are all on the back and out of four phone numbers for US only one was not disconnected and the insert leads you to believe its Polaroid with Polaroid in bold black lettering on the insert, well its not them. This is the number on the back of the insert 1-877-388-3779 and they are not Polaroid . Polaroids number is 1-877-768-8483 they are only Monday thru Friday and really Polaroid is no better ,they should put a recall on these TVs. Well good luck and may God bless you and your family .
