New C240 has no USB option in Settings

I had a c240 v1, had problems, just received y'day a new c240 v2 on an RMA. It has the very latest firmware on it. No USB option. I'm a Rhapsody To Go subscriber (have an e260 also) and I can't use Rhapsody to put music on the c240. It sees the player, looks like I'm dragging music there, but only folders with the artist name appear, no tracks, even when viewed directly in Windows Explorer. When disconnected, the Playlist I created within Rhapsody appears, but it's empty. How can I get the USB option back, or is it necessary? And can you actually get music to transfer from Rhapsody, onto a c240? Couldn't with my v1 either. Thanks! M. in Georgia

Additional info:I tried downloading to my PC and then transferring to device, still no go. Looks like it's transferring (used .wma format), artist name or album folders appear in device Explorer window during transfer, but they are empty. Some songs I get "unable to obtain certificate" even though I just d/l 2 minutes earlier w/current subscription. When I disconnect the C240, it's still empty except for the 5 preloaded songs. Nothing there at all. HELP!! How can I put music on this unit??!!

Thanks, but I did already update the firmware. My understanding is that the USB option was deleted for v2 of these units and/or for the lastest firmware. It automatically chooses MTP vs MSC based on what you're doing. I had a v1 with the USB option under the menu settings, I know what you're referring to. I know my licenses are good because I can transfer the same tracks onto my Sansa e260 within the same hour. I have contacted SanDisk and Rhapsody and they've asked me to install some debugging s/w to track the problem... I haven't yet had a chance to do that but should a solution become apparent I will post here for benefit of others. Thanks for your response!

Thanks again for your attention to this. Again, I have the latest firmware (3.02.05) for this unit, and according to Sansa, it eliminated the USB option! The unit automatically chooses MSC or MTP. There is no USB option in settings with this firmware, Sansa has changed this. I would need to rollback to previous firmware to get these options again. I know how to do this and actually performed a rollback on my previous c240 v1 before I RMA'd it, but it didn't resolve the Rhapsody download issue.

In all fairness, I thought the "thanks for trying" was a good rating given that you seem to be giving me wrong info (that latest firmware has USB option). I've talked to Sansa techs directly, and done a lot of searching in various forums (anythingbutipod, real users forum, sansa users forum, etc.) and I'm fairly certain I am correct on this point. If not, pls. let me know.

Update: I finally got music to download from Rhapsody To Go this week. I think, but can't be sure, that it's related to my having done a hard disk cleanup and deleted all temp files, including some relating to Rhapsody. Either that, or some changes were made at the Rhapsody end that resolved the problem for this player. I tried downloading on a whim about a week after deleting all those old files, not expecting success. FWIW, I did *not* in the interim d/l anything to my other player (Sansa e260) so there wouldn't have been any other temp files on my PC at that time... I hope I can do that, but right now I can't find that unit. I didn't change any settings on the c240, but I had reformatted it, deleting all music.

Hello,
My Sandisk c240 v2 Ipod does not have USB option.
My PC was not detecting this ipod.
In "My Computer", I could not find it in 'Devices with Removable Storage' on the list...
When I connected it to my PC (Windows xp), the display on the Sandisk indicated "connected" and "writing". However, I was not able to get the computer to recognize this device.
My problem was uploading mp3 songs from my computer to the player.
I went to a tab "Copy to CD or device"...I saw on the right hand side a list of the 5 default songs that are already in a folder called 'Music' (there were other folders like 'Record', 'Photo' etc)... so I tried to upload the songs under that 'Music' folder.. but when I played my player again, it didn't show the songs (except the 5 defalt ones).
I could not add or remove songs... it just didn't appear to be pluged in.
You can find a manual at this web page:
http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/user-guides/80-36-00556.pdf
You can also download the manual from the following URL:
http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/user-guides/c200-ug-eng.pdf
THEN......
Try the following site:.
I went to the following site:.
http://kb.sandisk.com/cgi-bin/sandisk_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=42&p_created=1221328944&p_sid=RgOKf2qj&p_brand=sansa&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NzYsNzYmcF9wcm9kcz00LDE5JnBfY2F0cz0wJnBfcHY9Mi4xOSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PXNhbnNhIGMyMDAq&p_li=&p_topview=1
Then I clicked on MSC mode link.
SOLUTION 2 - Connect the device to the PC in MSC mode
View/c200: Turn on then press and hold the rewind button while plugging to the PC
Fuze/e200: Go to Settings > System Settings > USB Mode & select MSC
Clip: Go to Settings > USB mode & select MSC
See List of Sansa players with instructions on enabling MSC mode
Then I was taken to the following site:

http://kb.sandisk.com/cgi-bin/sandisk_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=61&p_sid=RgOKf2qj&p_lva=42&p_brand=sansa&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NzYsNzYmcF9wcm9kcz00LDE5JnBfY2F0cz0wJnBfcHY9Mi4xOSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PXNhbnNhIGMyMDAq&p_li=
There I followed the instructions given below:
Sansa c200v2:
1. Turn off your player.
2. Slide the Hold switch at the bottom edge of the player towards the REC button, so that the orange indicator is visible.
3. Press and hold the << (rewind) button.
4. With the << button held down, connect the player to the PC.
5. Release the << button once the player is detected
Now, my PC recognizes my Ipod and I am able to copy music files as well as Voice Recoded files from / to ipod.
Great!

Bottom line is that this player is a good looking, promising piece of ****. I'm on my 2nd one (thought the 1st was just a fluke of bad luck). It seems as though sandisk sells this with very little useful support at a fairly cheap price so that no one will follow up on it. They keep raking in money for defective products and no one does anything about it. I'll never buy another prduct from them.

Sorry about the delay...I understand that you are getting device certificate error..There are two ways you can solve the device certificate..the first one is by formatting your device and the second one is by updating the firmware..I understand you have done that already..maybe something went wrong when you were doing the firmware upgrade..You should be able to transfer music from rhapsody to your device..You have to make sure that the songs you are trying to transfer to your device have the proper license..If after you have done all the steps above you are still having the same problem..you can contact me and I will be more than happy to assist you..or you can contact sandisk at 1-866-726-3475..I hope that helps

Updating the firmware should automatically put the usb more on your device..it should be under menu settings and then under USB..there should be two mode one is MSC and the other one is auto detect..If you dont see that I would strongly recommend that you contact sandisk...

Device not playing

The software/firmware of the player is going to need to be updated. You can download the latest drivers from the sandisk website so pc recognizes it, then download the software/firmware update and transfer it to the player

Max. micro sd card size compatible for Sansa C240

It depends on the version. v1 players can support up to 2GB. v2 players can support up to 8GB.

You can find out what version you have by going into Settings -> System and look at the version. If it starts with a 01 then it's a v1, if it starts with an 03 then it's a v2.

------------------

You can use a card up to 8GB if it's a v1 player by installing Rockbox on it. It's a 3rd party firmware for some mp3 players - although you should make sure to read any instructions for installing it, as well as read the manual.

-> Rockbox.org

I will stress this again: make sure you know what you are doing by reading installation instructions and the manual.

In order to install Rockbox on your player it needs to be in MSC mode (Settings -> USB -> MSC). If your player doesn't have the USB option in the Settings menu then you will need to downgrade your firmware. There's info on this in the Sandisk forums about how to do this.

I can't find my folders for my music, photos or voice record. How do i add new firmware?

Make sure that Windows Explorer is configured to display hidden and system files. Open the "My Computer" icon on the desktop; select menu "Tools: Folder Options..."; select the "view" tab; select the "Show hidden files and folders".

If that doesn't work, try formating the Sansa C240. Press the "Menu" button, scroll down and select "System Info", scroll down and select "Format".
It should erase the flash memory and create the required folders.

Sansa Media Converter doesn't find my device (c240)

Ok, after much gnashing of teeth, it turns out my R and many folks v2 players need the Media Converter V2 software.

The back of your player has the model number if it has a v2 after it you probably need the v2 of the converter software.

I can't confirm it, but I think the big clue is that in your settings on the player, you will not have the USB Mode in the Settings menu, just a "Mode" option.

I don't know where to officially get the v2 of the converter software, but here is a link to it I found on a forum, clamWinAV said it was virus free, but obviously who knows, but I ran it on my machine and it sees my player just fine:
