Washer noise during spin cycle

Performa maytag washer spin and wash ok but it make noise like a bearing at the beginning of spin cycle. sometime toward end of cycle. started today and would like to find how to repair and purchase parts myself

  • postagedew Mar 28, 2008

I have removed the belt and the gearbox spin freely in both direction. It looks like the noise is from the thrust pulley bearing . i lubricated the bearing , it went away for 2 wash and re-appeared on 3 third . I will look at it again to see if it can be lubricated again. I was given quote to replace thrust bearing kit from $ 230 to 350 for a 40 dollar part.

Im not able to purchase the repair manual from my local dealer.

    only available from USA

Remove the belt and spin the motor by hand to see if its noisy then the pump.if its the gearbox you would be better to replace the machine,i havent seen to many last more than 5 years the gear box could cost about 500.hope this helps.

you can replace the pulley kit yourself its an easy job,230- 350 is to much i would normally charge about 100.00 the part should come with instuctions.(its called a thrust bearing kit)

Maytag Performa Washer niosy during wash-cycle. Spins OK and without any noise.

It is so common that the washing machine can make terrible noise in many ways and is a common fault. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that machine is vibrating when it is running then the motor /drum suspension has to be inspected. Since these fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for the noise with a good inspection lamp. Manually turn the motor and drum and listen for the noise, if so the motor bearings, the drum agitator shaft and fittings must be checked. Also the suspensions which include the shock absorbers and springs, the body clamps must be checked to be in correct alignment and not changed in position. Tightening of the mounting is also very important. Finally in most cases a drop of OIL or smear of grease on the moving parts cane solve most issues.

Those 6 springs are pretty tough to get back on there without the special tool
other than that it all goes back pretty easy.

Maytag performa washer grinding noise

Sounds like the water pump is going out on it. The part runs about $80 and should only take about 45 minutes to install.

Knocking in washer

Hi,
Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

good luck.........

Maytag Performa PAV2300AWW screaching noise, belt problem, pulley broke

My Maytag Performa was making the loud squealing noise. I changed out the water pump/bearing, took care of the problem.
Putting a new belt on just help burn up the bearing (they needed replacing) and probably ruined the new belt. Probably seized the water pump bearing and the belt jumped and broke the motor pully. A washing machine motor is very strong, when that h20 pump bearing seized (or possibly some bearings jamed up) the motor kept on turning that belt and the plastic pully gave in. You'll need to replace that also. If the h20 pumb bearing is turning freely, likely the bearings jammed up but or now loose. That bearing should be tight, no slack or play in it. You can probably wobble the pully on it all around while turning it. The slightest slack is too much.

Maytag Performa - Loud Noises during Spin Cycle

This washer is JUNK!!!!!! We have the same washer (2 1/2 years old) and same problem. Tried to replace the bearing myself, no luck. So I called a repair man to come out and look at it. As soon as i told him the model number, they would'nt even come out. Very common problem for this washer. We are on our way to Sears to purchase a Kenmore.....GOOD LUCK
