How to change belt in teac x1000r reel to reel tape deck

The belt being broken is just the tip of the iceberg. Yes, people change them themselves all the time then they bring the deck to me when this does not work. Besides the belt, the capstan motor has to be determined good or not- sometimes a sticky belt can burn up the motor a $150 part. Typically, pots need cleaning, Flywheels should be extracted and oiled as well as capstan shafts cleaned and reconditioned- the Flywheels are particular as how they go in. I get units in with them reversed and another problem is created. The adjustment of tension arms requires a Tentelometer and the voltage references have to be set- they are usually off due to mechanical changes to the tension arms. The the calibration of the deck should be done. Also people are buying a wide belt in E bay and it does not work- I end up taking it out and putting in a correct sized belt. Rollers and Pinch Rollers need oiling and the washers put in where missing and so on.

Marrs Communications has belts for a lot of different models. I have bought from Fred Marrs before and his belts are the high end ones not Chinese garbage. That's who I would contact.

Ebay is the worse place to get belts- why do I know this? Well, as a servicer I am constantly replacing belts that are from E bay when clients can not get their decks to work with those wrong belts. While the counter belt is not critical the capstan belts are in a dual capstan system. The 32-2B is a X10 derivative so it will need proper servicing to work well. I am in the Chicago area and work on decks all the time as Skywave Tape Deck Repair just google it.

Just measure the diameter in MM and put the result into google with the words 'cassette drive belt'. Belts are not maker specfic.

You can get a FRESH belt kit from here. Cost you $10 plus some post. There is a new pinch roller listed against this old girl also could be worth replacing at the same time when you service the deck.
