Hi, go to your wireless provider web site and got their proper number "SMS Message Center Numbers".
On the phone, go to Options/SMS Text, move down to the Service Center line and put in the proper number remembering to put the + plus sign in front of it.
So if you get a Protocol Error and a Red X when trying to send SMS text, check this to fix it..
my blackberry pearl would delete my messages when i would get them. i took my phone in and they said to get a memmory card for it. i got one and know it works just fine
In this case you need to follow certain trouble shooting steps:-
1) Go to Options.
2) Select Security Options.
3) Select Fire wall.
You will find Block Incoming Messages, Kindly un check all the boxes and save that and you will be able to receive all the SMS.
I hope I was able to help you.
Go to profiles, scroll down to advanced, click the profile you want (most like normal) scroll down to sms text... n from there click tune... and change...

I had the same problem. When I called the Verizon customer service they told me that the memory was low on the phone to get a memory card and that would solve the problem. I did as they told me and now I have no problems. I hope this helps
