Error code 3 indicate that the control board and the motor are either not communicating.

If it just stops in one of the cycles such as regular, it points to the timer being defective. Have you tried to complete a cycle in say, perma press pr delicate? If it works ok in the different cycles except one, it's most likely the timer.

I have a Maytag model A490 clothes washer. It works fine up to the rinse cycle and then shuts down. When it reaches this point it has become necessary to manually advance the dial a short ways whereupon it will fill with water and complete the rinse and spin cycles. This happens on both the regular and the permanent press cycles. What needs to be done to fix this problem?

Lid switch if its a Maytag Alantis... You said you have a GE top load in the start of your problem and ended witha maytag?

sounds as if you have abad contact in the timer
advance the timer to a different spin cycle and see if it spins
then bo back to where it stops
if it will spin in the other spin cycles but not where it stops the the timer will need to be changed

Have you tried starting the wash cycle at several different time settings? Especially the shortest time setting, just before the start of the first spin? If it works at another setting, it's possible the dial/switch mechanism is worn and not making contact at your usual setting. In any case, a spray of a good electrical contact cleaner spray (NOT WD40 or similar) - with the power lead UNPLUGGED - sprayed into the switch mechanism might help. You would need to remove an access panel to get at the switch mechanism.

try pushing the door closed again, i have a problem with my machine that when i put a load on it starts then stops the light starts flashing then i firmly push the door (at the handle side) and it starts to work again, it might help!
