I cannot raise the bowl enough for the batter to fully mix. There is always flour etc. left on the bottom of the bowl. The only way is to stand there and hold the bowl up and tilt it around..Which in my opinion is what I paid for the mixer to do. It is a KitchenAid professional 5 Series Any suggestions?

There's an adjustment screw as shown in the picture.

Screwing this screw clockwise will raise up the bowl so the mixer paddle reaches closer to the bottom. Don't go too far, the paddle will start hitting the bowl.

Beater on Kitchen Aid stand mixer doesn't touch bottom of bowl

Why would you raise the beater if you want it to reach the bottom of the bowl? You need to lower the beater. Turn the screw in until it just touches with empty bowl on high speed then turn it counter clockwise a 1/4 turn so it will just clear.

Kitchenaid stand mixer 5SSWH 325 watts. How do I adjust the bowl height? Beater is too far from bottom of bowl. Thanks! Cas

There is a screw at the bottom of the motor head (flat head) you usually can't see it because of the top rim of the mixing bowl. hard to see and hard to reach, it may also be hard to turn due to "gunk" from mixing stuff (egg butter flour sugar) turn the screw counter clockwise to lower the motor head clockwise to raise it, you may also have the wrong size beater, it is not an uncommon problem, if you are the original owner and you have the original beater it should fix your problem with the adjusting screw, however I am not clear as to your model a 5SSWH would actually be a K5SSWH, which stands for kitchenaid 5 quart solid state white mixer, if this is your model number and you have the correct beater size then the adjusting screw will work to lower the head down, adjust it down using the stir or slowest speed just untill you can hear the beater "Ding" against the bottom of the bowl, then back it off a quarter turn to adjust properly. Hope this helps, let us know

I just got my mixer a few weeks ago for Christmas. I have made cookies twice. My problem is that the bottom of the bowl doesn't get scraped. The first time, I ended up putting more flour in the dough...

Put the flat beater on and mount the bowl to the machine. Now look for the screw next to where the beater mounts on the head- this is the adjusting screw. Turn it counterclockwise to lower the beater, just a quarter of a turn, and then check where it's running in the bowl. Repeat as necessary. If you need to raise the beater, just turn the screw the other way.

After putting flower into mixing bowl large quanity of flower is ejected when mixer is turnon at low speed. Once it starts to mix then it's ok.

Firstly, I think you mean "flour".
Put in your ingredients. Cover the mixer, head and bowl, with a dishtowel. Turn on mixer to "stir" (or lowest speed). But! Mix only for 1 or 2 seconds. Repeat this, with bowl covered, until flour is mixed in enough not to fly out.
Happy baking!

I received my mixer as a gift for my birthday in October. The bowl gets stuck and does not release from the base. I have to hit it a number of times with a rubber mallet to get it to release. Also when...

If that is the bowl that came with the machine it is not wrong. What happens from time to time is that the head on the mixer automatically adjusts causing the beater to not operate as it should. To adjust the head on the mixer place a dime at the bottom of the bowl, attatch the beater to the mixer and make as if you are going to start mixing. The beater should JUST touch the dime. If it doesn't touch it at all or is pressing it against the bowl, tilt the head of the mixer up to locate the adjustment screw located inside the shaft. Take a flat head screw driver, turn the screw clockwise (to lower the head) or counter clockwise (to raise the head). Place the beater back on the mixer, turn the machine on and see if it moves the dime moves. Once it is properly adjusted the dime should move ever so slightly.

Beater too low-will not lock

I would check the bottom of the beater blades to see if they are out of shape.,or is the base of the mixer raised somehow to cause this problem

Professional 600 - makes loud noise when mixing, often stops as it blends 8 cups of bread flour and "needs a break", flat beater seems to get caught on bottom of bowl - this mixer is 1 yr. old!!

Several things:

The Professional 600 has a metal gear housing with a metal gearing. Because of this, the Professional 600 will generally run louder than other stand mixers that may have a nylon/metal mesh gearing.

How long is the bread dough being mixed for? Kitchenaid stand mixers must be used on speed 2 for bread doughs, using the spiral shaped dough hook, and mixing for no longer than 7 minutes.

If the flat beater is getting caught on the bottom of the bowl, pleasure assure the bowl is being seated correctly. You will place the bowl on the mixer arms on the left and right hand side. You will also want to take your fingers along the back of the bowl, where it butts up against the base of the mixer, and press downward. You will hear an audible click as the bowl falls into a spring latch and allows the bowl to sit flush and secure. If this is not being done, the flat beater may strike the bottom of the bowl.

If this was not the cause of the problem, please consult your Use and Care Guide about the beater to bowl adjustment. This is an easy adjustment made with a flat head screwdriver that can quickly correct the problem of a flat beater hitting the bottom of the bowl.

Loud and throws flour all over

Do you find the motor running too fast at the lowest setting? Then you need to bring it to someone to adjust the low speed setting. If you are preparing double batches you are over loading the mixer and/or using too fast a speed setting to mix. Don't try to double recipes just because the bowl can handle the volume, the motor cannot and will not last very long if stressed mixing dough frequently.

Beaters don't reach the bottom of the bowl

There is an adjuster on the model I own - the KSM50... It is a tiny little silver screw at the base of the motor between the screws that mount the bowl mover to the stand. Screwing to the left makes the bowl lower and turning to the right makes the bowl higher. I just adjusted mine. Note - just a slight turn can make a difference, but my screw was SO TIGHT- I had to ask my husband to do it. Plus, it is located in a difficult area for some screwdrivers to fit into. He got mine to budge and now my clearance of beater to bowl ratio is perfect.

:) Hope it works for ya,

Incomplete mixing

You need to raise the bowl just a little less than the thickness of the layer presently being left behind. Too much and the beaters will touch the bowl .
