Why can't I control the brightness or contrast on my Viewsonic monitor?

Look to see if there is an "auto" setting, this would override the manual settings.

Viewsonic vx2235vm does not turn on

This really sounds like you have a power supply board that is having problems with the filter capacitors which are causing it to not start up correctly. Here is a like to a repair guide including video instructions showing how to open and repair the monitor.

My Viewsonic 2235 monitor only shows the desktop top on 70% of the upper screen. It was fine and I ran Paretologic. When I rebooted, the screen images are egg shaped or stretched out side to side. ...

If you have an Auto Adjust option on your monitor, press that and it should adjust the screen to the correct size.
The button should be on the panel or it might be a setting in the monitor settings itself.

Hope that helps

I am plugging the monitor up to my laptop and I can see the screen show up on the lcd but it is very very dim. How do I make the lcd display appear brighter? Thanks.

1 Check the brightness control on the laptop should be a Fn+ ( key on the keyboard)
check the user manual for the laptop function keys.

***I hope this helps. Have a great day!***

Viewsonic VX2235wm Horizontal Image Problem

Tricky one. Have you tried using different dispay resolutions from your Windows Display Control Panel?
ie 1200x1014, 1600x1400, etc.

When you say you used the manual adjust, do you mean the horizontal sync option?

Did you perform a Settings Recall?

And most monitors have a way of entering into an engineering "Factory Service Menu". Usually by depressing specific buttons while the monitor is OFF, and then pressing the power button while still holding the others. Then let all button go at once. From there, hit the normal button that you use for getting into the OSD. In the OSD, there's usually a new field with all kinds of cool new settings to play with. One of them being a soft reset. You'll have to search the net for how to enter into your Factory service menu.

Oh wait! I know!
If your picture has moved to the right, move yourself accordingly.
So that now you and your picture will be aligned properly.
