I have had my machine about 2 years and have loved it. But now when I turn on the steam valve it just squirts water and makes the pump noise but no steam comes out. I did notice that a few days ago when I decalcified water was coming out the bottom of the machine (alot) as well as out the spout and the machine smelled "hot" I called wholelattelove and can send it back for repairs that cost 100 but hate to be without my machine for 5 to 6 weeks. I want to bring it to a local serviceman if there is one...I believe the secondary boiler needs repalced. The machine still brews shots os good esspresso and will dispense hot water.

Clean an iron:

1. Unplug the iron and make sure it is cool before cleaning.
2. Use a toothpick or pipe cleaner to remove buildup in the steam vents, making sure the debris doesn't fall into the vents.
3. Use a fine sewing needle to carefully clean the spray nozzle of mineral deposits.
4. To flush sediment from a steam iron, pour 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar into the water tank. Place the iron on a rack over a broiling pan and set the iron to steam until the tank runs dry. Repeat if necessary. Or follow the instructions for using a commercial iron cleaner.

Service the steam and spray mechanism:

1. Unplug the iron.
2. Use a fine sewing needle to unclog the steam valve assembly. Also, check the valve spring and replace it if it is broken or has lost tension.
3. If the spray pump is accessible, remove it and check for leaks by placing the spray tube in water and squirting the pump. Clean or replace as needed.

This means the water cannot flow through the machine. Normal fix is to prime the machine (turn water dispenser on, fill a cup) or descale the machine. Go through the menu, select descale, enter, then turn the steam knob fully anti-clockwise. You should put the descaling solution in the water tank first.
If you have the auto-descale in the menu then run it. Run the solution through the machine twice. Then rinse well.

Someone onCoffee Geek had this to say and it sounds like it could be the same problem:When I first got my machine--a steal from a fellow barista friend for $40!--It had been sitting dry for about 18 months, and I had the same problem with the pump. After trying some things myself, I eventually called the manufacturer's help line and was told I needed to manually prime it. I used a little squeeze bottle full of water to slowly fill the intake tubing with water and turned on the machine and opened the steam/hot water valve which turned on the pump. After some stuttering, it caught and has been fine ever since. So yes, I would recommend manually priming and then running water through the pump, boiler, and steam wand until all air is out of the system. Hopefully that will fix you up.

Easiest way to get to it, remove the 2 screws in the bean hopper, and remove the hopper, there are a few screws under the water tank, this should give you access to the machine top. Check the end of the steam wand it might be blocked use a paper clip to clear it out. Run it under the faucet to make suree it is clear. Check the microswitch that is connected to the steam valve, It can be seen when you turn the knob to open the steam/hot water valve, make sure it is not stuck in the on position.

Vibration pumps usually make this when they stay long without work, sometimes they are remaining useless after this, you can try to open steam valve and to try pumping inn the water, if it does not helps, YOU MUST open the device, remove pump and blow her with compressed air few times, (they have two sensitive non return valves on the outlet). After blowing try it with water outside the device and see if she draws. If you recover the old one just put it in place and continues to work. If not than you must buy new pump

If you open the steam knob, push the middle button and you get a continuous stream of water, your pump is good. You probably have a bad 3 way valve, that needs to be replaced. Its behind the panel in the front. 2 screws and it slides to the right.

You need to get the pump "primed" with water going through it.

If the machine is new or has not been used in a long time, the plastic feed tube(s) in the reservoir will be dry. You have to get the water to slowly creep up these tubes until it hits the pump inside, then the water/steam will come out the head and will keep coming out each time you use it until it dries out again.

I've had to re-prime my Via Veneto several times, and each time it seems like I'm doing it wrong and the machine is broken. But follow these steps and you'll get there.

1. Fill the reservoir with water and put the two tubes in it.
2. Turn on the boiler button (left-most of the two narrow ones)
3. Don't put the portafilter on, just leave the head bare.
4. Turn on the pump and let it run. Watch the water level in the plastic tubes. Understand that at this point, the pump is just pumping air, which it is not designed to do efficiently. As it pumps the air it slowly draws water up the tubes. Really slowly.
5. You can speed this up by putting a cup under the steam tube and opening the steam valve. This is while the brewing pump is still on. You will have hot water squirting out of the steam tube. You may see the water moving more quickly up the tubes.
6. The pump may have to run for several minutes. You'll get impatient and scared something is wrong, but just let it run. You'll see the water creep up the tube and go into the unit. Soon afterward pressurized water will start spraying out of the head.

Now, keep it primed for months by keeping water in the reservoir. If you use it only infrequently, run the pump and at least get some water moving every week or so.

I've tried silly things like holding the tubes upside down, trying to get water forced up into them, but in the end, just let the pump do the work and be patient.

1. if it is fine ground coffee sometimes you get this result at machines.
2. low pressure pump = you get water from it but only when handle is out or steam valve open.
3. pump with non return valve broken = in this case you get water if you open tea valve during pump works. this pump can work long even she has 1 valve damaged, only when she is empty you need to open steam valve and leave pump running while you don't get water from valve.

You have to prime the pump.. Hit the water button and open the steam knob.

If no water goes through the steam wand I would check for a clogged water line.
