On/Off from remote does not work

The tv can only be turned on by walking over and pressing the button. The repair guy says it will cost big bucks because the sensor has to be replaced. I've had some experience in radio/tv repair. Any ideas as to where to get a sensor and how to install it myself? (and yes, I have put in new batteries)

I am really looking for step by step guidance here. The reference I was given did not give me the info that I want.

  • Anonymous May 01, 2010

It sounds like you have probably found the information I need. However, I don't have the necessary program to open an rar file. If would be nice to know if there is a free version somewhere. This is especially so since this will probably be a one-time use. Any suggestions?

  • Anonymous May 02, 2010

Well, I tried to follow your advice but was not successful with the download because my anti-virus software kicked in and advised me that the download contained malware. It strongly advised me (via a red screen) that I should abort the download. Not wanting to add a disabled computer to my problem, I followed that advice and aborted the download.

So it seems that I am back to square one because I have no manual to follow. Do you have any other suggestions? Are you able to send me the instructions that I need in some other way? (like in an email attachment perhaps?)

Well, so far I have had only a little bit of success in getting closer to the solution of my problem. By that, I mean that I trusted your advice and downloaded Rozilla Free unrar.

Although I downloaded the file from the following:Toshiba_32hf72_32hfx72_36hf72_36hfx72_N2PS_service_manual.part7.rar Rozilla will not open it. The reason given is as follows:
Operation failed: Parts of the spanned archive are missing or corupted. please put all parts in the same folder then open the 1st part only.

At this point, because I am getting very weary, I am about ready to give up on downloading it myself. Thus, if you are still willing, you might try sending me the manual directly to the following email account:

    [email protected]

In any case, your help and support is greatly appreciated.

The solution was very impressive. The help that I received from bvanjoff, who stuck with me when I was having difficulty, and got me through it, kept me from quitting this project.

I'll recommend this service to my friends.

    Thank you - Thank you

You can go to the following website to download a copy of the service manual for your TV:

http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/17900/Toshiba_32hf72%2032hfx72%2036hf72%2036hfx72.html

It is a multipart RAR archive so you will have to download all of the parts and then use either Winrar or Winzip to unpack it. You will have to have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader available on the Adobe site to read the manual.

Page 31
of the manual shows the part that you are looking for, It is about a third of the way down in the second column. Location # KB01, part #23906805, described as IC, REMOTE PHOTO RECIEVER, PIC-TB17. Page 39 in the manual shows you the CONTROL-1 BOARD PD0651. On the left hand upper side of the board the first component is labeled POWER SA05. Directly beneath that part is the KB01, which is the sensor you are looking for. You should be able to order the part from the shop that the repair guy that you mention in your question. Once you receive it, all you have to do is find the location on the parts placement picture in the manual, desolder and remove the old one, and then solder in the new one. You mention that you have some experience in radio/tv repair so I'm assuming that you are okay with that procedure. There are numerous sites all over the web that show and discuss the procedure. If it has been awhile since you've done that type of repair you might want to do a little practicing. Like all electronic parts the sensor is sensitive to heat damage.

If you go to the following website:

    http://download.cnet.com/RarZilla-Free-U...

There you can download a free program called RarZilla Free Unrar. This will allow you to unrar archives.

    You can also try here:

    http://www.7-zip.org/

From here you can get the 7zip program. This one will also allow you to unrar files. Neither of these files have the ability to rar or compress archives. To get the license to do that you would have to purchase a separate program to do that.

Hopefully this will get you on your way. If you have any other issues please let me know.

Sorry for the delay in answering but I had a small emergency to take care of. I scanned the files as I always do via 2 different websites that use multiple anti-virus programs, as well as the excellent program I have on my hard drive and it was definitely a good file. The site I sent you to for the download also guarantees clean files. I'm not sure which AV program you are using but you may want to update your definition file, or if you have done so lately, possibly look at a different program. But, that is neither here nor there.

If you want to give me an email address that could accept about a 10MB pdf file I would be more than happy to send you a copy of the manual. Hopefully from there things will go well (of course now that I said that it will end horribly... just kidding). Sorry about this taking so long but this should hopefully be our last hurdle.

Radioman130 I've sent the full version of the manual to you. If you have any issues receiving it let me know and I will resend it in pieces. Hopefully this will get you on your way,

LCDHDTV has bad LCD

Ouch! yep walk away from this one if a repair guy has already checked it out.Even if it was available it would cost more than the TV was worth new. Many of these cheaper lesser known brand names are considered throw aways after the warranty runs out they don't make enough parts to support them. Stick with the big boys Sony, Samsung etc..

Sony Wide Screen Projection TV KP-51WS520

I had the same problem. blinking 9 times, pausing, 9 times...... remote would not power the tv on. after five minutes of pressing the remote it finally would. after turning it off you would have the same problem. sometimes a half hour of pressing remote in every which what way. finally left the tv on for three days and would mute at nite to go to bed. didn't think that was the best way so turned it off and it never turned back on. checked all the forums and found out it was the g board. unfortunately, you cant buy the whole g board anymore. if you take the back panel off the tv, on the lower left corner is where the g-board is. there are 3 little things to unplug and two screws (phillips head) in the middle of the g board. its simple to figure how to take it out. go to the sony direct parts website. the part # is A1054157A for the g board. since they dont sell it anymore they have a phase 3 program where you send in your old g board and they repair it for 64.95. it'll cost about 8 bucks to ship it to them. better than the 400 bucks the tv guy wanted. address is sony customer satisfaction ctr. , materials door 27H, mount pleasant, PA 15666 there number is 866-748-8272. call first and they give you the step by step instructions what to do. after tax and shipping it came out to less than 80 dollars.even came with a warranty. got it back in a week, popped it in and just love turning the tv on. anyone can do it.

Codes for Apex are 595, 618, 743, 744, 005, 006, 019, 020, 120, 745, and 757.

Codes for Sony tv are 500, 514, 578, 640, 670, 690, and 758.

If these dont work here is what is called a power scan. It will go through all the codes in the remote and find the right code for your tv.

1)hold down tv button next to sat button in top left corner
2) when all buttons illuminate press 500 into remote
3)press pound sign

To set up caller id you have to enable it on the receiver. Press menu 6-1-2, highlight enable and press select. Highlight done and press select. Press 0 three times. Try calling yourself with a cell phone to see if it works, if not, repost on this thread.
