Watches fall into two basic categories - quartz and mechanical. If you bought a quartz watch that is battery powered you need to set the watch and push the crown in all the way to start the watch. Sometimes you need to remove a small plastic piece from the stem to push it in all the way. If you bought a mechanical watch, even if it is an automatic self-winding model, you will need to manually wind it to get it started. If you are still having problems take it back tot he dealer for a demonstration or to have the battery replaced if required. An instruction sheet and warranty card is packaged with almost all new watches. Sorry I can't be more specific but if you care to share the make and model number I may be able to help you further.

Make sure of course that the stem is pushed all the way in to start the watch. If it is all the way in then your battery must be dead. You can look around the edge of the back for a lifting area and use a pocketknife to pry the back off, the problem is with new watches you may need a jewelers watch press to get back back on. Also be aware some watches have screw off backs and some have screws those should go to your local jeweler...actually because its a new watch i would return it or at least take it to a watch repairman or a jeweler! Hope this helps!

Your watch is a quartz type (not a self winding one), so swinging it about will not help.

I presume that your watch is new and has not been running; is that correct?

Some watches are dispatched with a plastic wedge under the crown wheel to prevent them running while on the jewlers' shelf. Has yours got one still in position?

If it hasn't, then I can only think that the battery is dead and needs replacing. If you bought it locally, have you spoken to them. Otherwise try to contact the supplier and discuss your problem with them (if you haven't already done so).They should send you a replacement under warrranty if they haven't any solution to your problem.

Mechanical watches are very good today - I remember when a new technology called "Shock Resistant" came into vogue many years ago. This "feature" is rarely spoken of today. Your Quest should be shock resistant - which has nothing to do with electricity - but it is not 'bullet proof'.

Please take it back to Zales for inspection.

Scratch on Silver touch screen
It is not under warranty as is not any physical/mechanical damage caused by the wearer. But the good point is - you can send it back with the request to fit the new one. And you will have to pay for it.

My watch isn't working!
I don't understand why you don't just take the watch back and get them to fix it or show you how to make it run. If the watch runs, except for the second hand, then yes the crown may not be pushed all the way in. Sometimes I have found dirt/junk underneath the crown that keeps it from going in far enough. So pull out the crown and clean underneath first. Hope this helps. If the watch doesn't run at all, then that's a "horse of a different colour" as you say over the pond, lol
