I have one too. Someone has probably chaged the clock by turning the hands - BAD IDEA! THe clock should only be advanced by turing the center stem that the hands are attached to. Turn the stem until you get a chime on the hour, say thrre o'clock. Now move only the hands to match the chimed time and it should correct the problem for all hour and half-hour chimes.

I have one too, just got it, has not worked in over 2 years, I did what you said and now it is working keeping time but not chiming, is it supposed to chime where you can hear it. and how do I get it to chime.

also wanted to add that it wont stay working what do I need to do, is it supposed to be wound everyday, and do I need a key for it, I have not instructions with it at all. Someone gave it to me, and I know nothing at all about it.

There should be a pin on the lower right clock face. Push the pin upward and the chimes will sound. Pull the pin down to silence it.

I suspect that the mechanism needs cleaning.

Take a look inside and if there is the slightest sign of dirt (particularly on the striking mechanism) then it should behave properly after cleaning.

Daneker grandfather clock

Yes chiming clocks always have a switch to turn them off. Often termed a 'night shut off'.

My Galleria grandfather clock has stopped working. I think it may have been wound to tightly. I can move the pendulum and the hands will work. How can I repair this?

I have the same problem. I have found you need to start the pendulum to the right rather then to the left, or visea versa. You can tell if the tick tock is uneven

I purchased a Howard Miller grandfather clock and the clock is keeping time but pendulum is barely moving. What's the problem?

Hi Pam,
I have a Howard Miller Grandfather clock and the pendulum swings very slowly and from far left to far right travels only about three inches at best. It doesn't need to move any more than that to make the "Verge" move the "Escape Wheel" to rotate the gears to keep the hands moving at the correct tick.

Edward Meyer 31 Day Grandfather Clock manual

I recently bought an Edward Meyer clock from Grandfather clocks for less. The clock is beautiful, but it never chimed. I even took it apart and repaired the chimes, the hammers were too far away from the chiming rods, but now that it does chime, it sounds like someone banging pots and pans together, it's horrible. I've been looking online to find replacement chime and hammer parts so I can fix it myself.

Galleria Grandfather Clock I bought from Big Lots for $39 It runs slow and I haven't been able to figure out how to set the timing to get it right Is there a lever or screw somewhere I need to adjust?

Normally, the speed is regulated by the position of the weight on the pendilum.

I dont know what you really got at Big Lots for $39.00, however. I am not familiar with your particular brand

Most grandfather/grandmother clocks have an adjustable screw on the weight to slightly extend it or shorten it to satisfy the equation of pendulum swing. the shorter the swing (arc distance) the faster the clock, the longer the swing the longer the time. Check to see if you can adjust the weight up or down on the hanger.

Elgin grandfather clock chimes not working

I'm not positive about this, but I seem to recall that these type of clocks have two "silence levers" on the movement. These levers are located at the upper left and upper right corners of the movement as you face the movement from the back. The movement back panel has to be removed if it has one.

If the levers are pushed toward the chime rods, they will silence the hour or musical chime, depending on which one it is. I believe the silence levers are supposed to be moved away from the chime rods so the rods can retract and then strike the chime bars.

Clock cleaning

This is not as easy as you might think. We learn decades to repair (cleaning included) watches and clocks. Any tip would be with no use, as every clock needs individual and specific attention.
The only tip is: visit an eBay and buy the clock repairers book. I've seen some books there.
All this is under the ''Jewellery and Watches'' section.
