Dryer pilot comes on for about 5 secs and goes out, but burner dosn't ignite.

Gas line is clogged if your pilot lite goes out - They got rid of pilot stoves because the pilot was always lit and using gas.

And without a lit pilot no way you can get the burner to ignite unless you use a match, assuming you have gas going to the burner!

Check the burner, the holes may be plugged, especially at the beginning of the season. Same happens to the pilot light tube. Spiders love to make nests inside those small holes clogging everything up.

For (fire) safety, there is usually a thermostat that will turn off the gas if pilot light goes out.

So when you try to light the pilot you will have keep press & hold the pilot gas supply for at least 10 sec until the thermostat is heated up. Then only when the pilot light stays on continually, can you turn on the burner.

Forget about changing to a High pressure regulator!

After burner on did you hear any spark ignitor if that your flame sensor is dirty or need to replace....good luck

Motor runs, but main burner will not ignite
1.heat switch set wrong---correct switch setting
2.defective timer or timer circuit---check timer wiring--replace timer motor or switch as needed
3.defective centrifugal switch in motor---clean switch or replace as needed
4.gas supply valve closed----open gas valve
5.inoperative solenoid coil---test coil for open circuit & the voltage to it

Pilot burner goes out
1.insufficient gas supply---- low gas pressure or clogged pilot filter or partially closed gas valve
2.carbon deposit on thermocouple tube---clean tube & check pilot burner for proper combustion
3.improperly adjusted pilot flame--adjust pilot flame until faint yellow tip begins to appear
4.faulty ignition or reset valve or thermocouple---replace

Clothes not drying, but dryer runs & heats
1.defective operating thermostat---test thermostat, replace if defective
2.fan or it's pulley loose on shaft---tighten set screw
3.incorrect heat or timer settings---reset timer
4.clothes to wet when placed in dryer----wring out or extract water from clothes before placing in dryer
5.clogged lint screen or duct (little air motion)---clean out lint screen & duct

I am 99% sure it is electronic ignition. There a dryers that had pilots but those are very old. So what you can do is start with the basics. Make sure the gas valve for the dryer is on and there is gas pressure coming from the connector. Make sure there is no debris blocking gas flow in the gas line. If the dryer has a removable door or burner inspection hole on the bottom pull it loose with a screw driver otherwise you will need to remove the back cover of the dryer. Turn on the dryer and watch for the hot surface igniter to come on. It will glow very bright then you should hear the gas solenoid valve click and the burner should come on. If the solenoid opens and the igniter does not come on inspect the burner orfice for any blockage. If the igniter does not come on then you will need to test the igniter for the proper ohm reading with a fluke meter. You will need to verify the igniter is getting power. If the igniter tests good it might be a bad solenoid valve(there are two) or a grounding issue.

The valve on the pilot may need to be replaced. The springs get worn and wont stay up. Otherwise you could replace the entire pilot unit with a kit.

it sounds like the gas valve solenoids are shorting out. there are two coils that operate in tandem to allow gas flow. these coils can eventually overheat and cause the gas not to flow as well have a rattling sound from the plunger inside the coil trying to move inside the weakened coil. the coils can be replaced and will come in a pair with guide pins to help you put them in correctly. one coil will have three wires going to it and the other coil will have two wires going to it. pretty simple fix and should solve the problem
