Im using a Rode nt1a for the first time. just plugged it in. im a total noob when it comes to ausio and microphones. i use audacity for frecording and a mobile pre usb as preamp conected through XLR cables with phantom power switched on. the mic looks like its working but the signal i can record is very low. almost not hearable wven though im only 20 to 30 cms away from the mic.
also in the manual it says not to unplugg Rode nt1a when plugged to power, but since my usb device alwa gets poer and cant be turned of by switch, how am i supposed to ever get it off safly ?

try cleaning your plugs before inserting them into the machine. a dry clothe will do nicely. polishing the plug heads in a twisting motion.
SOURCE: works for a few seconds then cuts out
After trying a known good cable, I would try it on another preamp (prefferably a medium or high quality one) with a known good phantom power supply and test it with that. Or just go to your local Guitar Center and ask the associate there to test it for you. They will be happy to oblige.

Hi, what else do you do think you will need? I don't think you will need any other thing except that before you use the mic, the
switch for the phantom power on the microphone is to be activated .Without the phantom being activated, the mic will not work.
It
can only be activated with a mixer console that has a phantom
activation on it. After connecting the mic to the mixer, activate the
phantom power on the mixer and switch on the phantom power on the mic,and
problem solved.
Note: Mic will not work if no phantom activated on the mixer.
That all you will need .
Thanks for using fixya....
