Instuction manual I am looking for the manual for the tdk 440n, where can I get a copy?

this is an old DVD burner. really i s a Nec1300a.
if the 2 power wires really do have power (voltmeter works there)
and it dont eject on command, ITS DEAD.
this is not a USB drive. its PATA interfaced.

if this drive is part of on other system, say a USB external chassis
do say so and name and brand of said system sub chassis.?

Im assuming your running a desktop PC,

If your Disc drive can be seen by your operating system but It doesnt open or thinks theres no media in it, make sure the data cable is connected. This will be either Sata or IDE (A thin coloured plastic cable or a thin wide cable.) Make sure it is connected to your motherboard and that the cable works.

If you can, try the disk drive in another machine to see if it works. Ive had a few do this and theyve ended up just being broken.

The lubrication inside your device may be insufficient or some mechanical problem has occurred inside preventing the device to open. Now, look at a very "small hole" near the Tray's front cover. If you see it, get a very small pin or even a needle to fit to that small hole. Now, press the "open" button in your device and then push that pin or needle in the hole at the same time to help the device to open.

sometimes the manufacture at the time of the build didnt have the information for certain disks so that the drive can read them you can try to update the flash to 1.0c if you currently are using 1.0 here is a link to do the upgrade

this is the 420N, not the 440N?  
is this an internal or external burner?

what operating system are you using?  on Windows XP, there's a good chance that you can just use the default drivers for that...

the best set of drivers i can find is here:

but most of those are firmware updates, or for slightly different models.
