My digital voice recorder got wet. How can I retrieve the information I have already recorded?

  • Anonymous Apr 29, 2010

I am trying what you suggested. In the meantime, I would like to have your opinion as to whether

or not I will be able to eventually retrieve, in one way or another, very important information I have recorded on this machine, or will this material be lost? The specific model I have is Olympus

VN-6000. Again, the material I have recorded is of extreme importance and I would hope that at

some point I could retrieve it on the recorder's memory or in some other way, or has my getting the

recorder wet wiped out these recordings? Thank you very much.

Yes - Please tell both experts who replied to me that the advise they gave me WORKED. I did what both of them said, and this morning the recorder
came BACK to life!! I am copying the important recordings off the old recorder onto a new one, and then will have them redone for computer use, which is where I eventually need the recordings.
    Thank you very much!!

OK - I hear you and I tell you - don't panic. I have had a lot of this type of electronics come back.
PLEASE - remove the battery - shake the unit for any extra water coming out - set the unit with battery opening facing down - to let any water drain - let it set for 24 hours. If you replace the battery and it works end of problem - but I would remove the battery anyway after you get your information off and let it set an additional 24 hours.
I promise you - I have done this many times and once it took 4 -5 days - BUT the unit CAME BACK - THIS WORKS

Best of it

First of all DON'T TRY TO POWER IT ON. Eject the battery and leave any cover that is possible open in order to dry. Leave it this way some hours and from time to time turn it the other side. Don't put it in direct sun or heat, just a wet and warm area. After some hours you can try to power it up the usual way. I can't tell you for sure that it will be in working state, but at least you have tried with the right way.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply.

There is no way to tell you if it will work or not again. It depends on the liguid and the other things that were in the liguid. For example if the liguid is clean water and after the spilling you didn't try to power up the devise, it will work. If the water includes milk the things are worst. The complexity of the device is still a factor to mention.

I accidentally erased a recording how can i get it back

Unfortunately this recorder model is designed with flash memory and once the files are erased they are gone. There are some companies that do specialize in flash memory recovery (Olympus is not one of them). You can go to google and search for flash memory recovery specialists. However this is a very costly process as it involves sending the device to these companies for them to do the recovery process.

Recovering deleted files from olympus VN-4100PC voice recorder

Chances are there to recover such kind of deleted files from your Olympus recorder.

First things first: DO NOT take any more videos or audio with the recorder that you want to recover files from in case you may quite possibly ruin your chances of voice memo file recovery.

Then connect your device to a PC, and have a try of Photo Recovery (also recover audio, voice memos, video files etc), a data recovery program which is good at recovering media files lost. If you are Mac OS X users, turn to Data Recovery for Mac.

Lastly, I hope you good luck. Again you should remember - the more you use your recorder, the less likely you may be able to recover the deleted files back! So STOP using the device ASAP.

How do I get back deleted voice files from my Olympus VN-3100PC digital recorder?

Unfortunately because the device has flash memory the voice files once deleted are unable to be retrieved. You may try to google search for companies that specialize in flash memory recovery but it is a very expensive process.
