The above answer solves a different problem, but not the Line Status Indicator lights.

To program out the additional lines:
Press "Program", *, #
then press 2, 3, or 4 for each line status light you wish to change.
then press "0" to turn OFF line status
or press "1" (when you add lines 2-4) to turn ON line status
then press "Transfer"
You should hear a confirmation tone.
Repeat for any lines that you wish to exclude or include.
Excluded lines cannot be used even if service is provided to the line. So you must turn ON the line if you add service.

This information is from the Lucent 0954 user manual Page 11 (which works for the 854, 874, and 954)

The above answer refers to the issue of a constant ringing (intercom patterned ring) even when there is no incoming call.
If you have more than 1 of these phones you must assign an intercom number to avoid a constant ringing.
To assign intercom number:
"Program", *, #
Enter a 2 digit intercom number from 11-22
Press "Intercom"

This information is from Lucent 0954: Page 10.

The lights are controlled by 2-AA batteries per line (they are not necessary to just make calls) - The dial tone, I don't know, but you have Line 1 & 2 as one Plug, plus Line 2 and there are 2 Data plugs all in the back.. so...you know

No dail tone --but phone line is connected

Hello.

If the dial tone is not heard check the volume. It may have accidentally been muted or turned down.

Is the phone line plugged into a surge protector? The surge protector may have stopped working or blown a surge, a sudden burst of electricity, which may have caused the dial tone in your cordless phone to go. Unplug the phone line from the surge protector then plug it back in and see if you get a dial tone? It could be that the phone line plugged into the surge was loose.

Try a different phone plug, outlet.

If the other phones on that line work OK, disconnect all the phones connected to the line, leave them all disconnected for 3 minutes, and then connect one at a time.

If still a problem and the other phones on that line work OK, give this a try:

Unplug the battery in the handset, unplug the phone line from the base and unplug the electricity from the base. Leave everything unplugged for an hour or two. That way you can get more of an idea of whether your phone will work. After an hour or two, plug in everything.

Hope this helps.

AT&T Model 854 4 line phone, turn off unused line lights

It's a matter of cabling.

Make sure that only the line you wish to use is connected.

If all of the lines are cabled with two to four line cable, then reduce the cabling to a single red/black combination on the one line.

Phone connection for Lucent 854

You can get a splitter for it which will then divide that one phone jack into 3 out or 4 out which ever you need. the only problem that you might run into is how close the phones might be to each other. Otherwise there isn't much other ways around it with only one phone jack.
