During brewing sometimes the grounds filter pops out letting the coffee go all over the counter instead of in pot. Doesn't always happen=usually only when we are not watching!!! Pain in the u know what. We also have the problem of not always completing the whole cycle-only ending up with half a pot for whatever reason, and sometimes just going all over the counter. Think we might think twice before spending that kind of money again.
I periodically take a wet Q-Tip and clean around and inside the "slides" for the brewing basket door, so that it slides in and out easily. (I was amazed what the Q-Tips look like after you do this.)
I think the problem lies in the fact the basket does not go fully back and engage the latch due to the gunk that builds up on the slide. You think you fully closed the door when you feel the resistance of the gunk, but you are only marginally latched - the vibration of the motor pops the door free and VIOLA! coffee-ala'-counter!
I think the gunk comes from very fine ground coffee dust, mixed with water that condenses from the steam that envelops the unit during brewing.
I also clean every surface in the brewing basket area with a wet paper towel,
I used to have the same problem often... now I keep one of those cans of compressed air usually used to dust off electronics and insert the straw into the slides on each side and blast out the coffee grounds and debris. This seems to free up the slides and the latch can catch better.
We have the same issue. We returned our first unit when this happened but the same thing occurred with the new one. It's a cheap little plastic piece that acts as the latch that holds the filter in place. I suspect that this piece gets worn and then can't hold back the spring any longer.
The work around I've used for this problem is to wrap a piece of velcro tape around the filter box. You can get the stuff at any hardware store. I made a loop that fits around the top of the entire unit at the top of the filter basket. It has some slight elasticity so when I close the basket and pull the velcro down it holds everything together tightly, even when the latch lets go.
Since I've started doing this I've had no problems. I chose thin black velcro bands to do this. Because of the coloring it looks like it's part of the unit unless you look closely.
Not a true solution, but a decent work around.
I'm assuming
you've got a coffee filter pot as this is the
most common kind (especially as
wedding gifts).
1. Boil the water.
2. Put the filter (should come with the
pot) into the filter holder.
3. Add 2 level tbsp. of ground coffee
per 6 oz of water.
4. Pour some of the hot water over the
coffee grounds, giving them a few seconds to swell.
5. Now add the rest of the hot water and
allow the coffee to slowly drip through the filter.
6. Remove the filter with the coffee
grounds in just before the final drops of water go through.
7. Now sit down and enjoy!

Mine is about two years old and it started last week to pour all over the counter as well. Not only when we aren't looking either, everytime!! I've tried cleaning everything out in case there was a clog, but it's still happening. I'm ready to throw it out but it was not a cheap coffeemaker...any suggestions??!!

Occasionally pops out and runs all over the place..now set half way over the sink so it goes down the drain....Like the other lady said..always when I'm Not looking...Now it doesn't work at all ..grinder works but does not drip..husband thinks perhaps heating element is burned out. Had it for a year. It is so beautiful, can't bring myself to throw it away..Any suggestions?
My filter basket frequently pops out while in the grinding cycle, throwing grounds all over the place. What is causing this? The basket seems to be ok in the brew cycle, just happening during the grinding.
We have the same problem. My husband determined that you can only use certian coffee like WaWa or Dungan Donuts coffee used in the machine. I spent a fortune for the coffee maker and it only brews correctly every so ofter.
Mine does the same thing, filter pops out when I have it set for auto in the morning. I go down to get my coffee and there is coffee and grounds EVERYWHERE. I think the latch that holds the door closed had a spring that is loose and it pops open when the grinder vibrates the machine?? Think I am getting a new coffee maker, maybe Krups?
A bad production design that they don't seem to care about fixing. The only solution is to buy another brand.
