Hi.
Disconnect the oven from power and allow cooling down. Most GE have temperature controlled fan system.
The Fan is controlled by main pcb and powered along the line passing through the door lock switch, with circuit supplying power to the magnetron and turntable motor.
The fan is also operated directly by the control board.
If the turntable was also running, then the door switch is shorted. In that case the magnetron may be working as well, better not to start the microwave oven.
If only the fan is running, then the main pcb must be replaced, or the damper motor relay must be replaced.
Call GE and arrange repair, the unit is faulty.
I had similar symptoms with a different GE Profile series. Once I was sure it wasn't the actual microwave that was running when the door was open (a freightening thought), I proceeded to troubleshoot.
In the end I found that it was a bad door microswitch. Once disassembled I could see that it was collapsed (probably a failed spring). It was a simply 30-min fix (if I don't include the hour I spent cleaning) with a $25 part.
Removal involved 3 phillps screws to gain access to switches next to control panel; and the two torex screws that hold the door switches assembly. My microwave had a total of three switches, in my case it was the lowest of the three.
Works fine now.
