Im trying to get my lawnmower ready for the spring season and today i went outside to start it and only twice it started for about 5 sec then shut off the second time it did the same thing . I let the mower sit awhile and went and tried it again only this time i tryed several time to start it and this time the motor wont even turn over. it has a full tank of gas and i put new oil in it . why wont my mower start and stay running.
Remove the plug and lead, touch it against the body of the engine and check there is a spark when you pull the starter rope. You may need an assistant to help keep the plug stay in contact with the engine (make sure they don't touch any metal!).
The float bowl acts like a toilet cistern keeping the fuel at a constant level. Remove the float bowl and check that gas flows freely into it and stops when the float is pushed upwards. If fuel doesn't flow, the inlet valve may be blocked due to a blocked filter. If the fuel doesn't shut off, this could flood the carburetor.

Why wont that lawn mower start?
Buy a can of engine starter (ether). Prime engine, spray a little ether into the carburator (air filter) and pull start.Works great.
