Hey!
Unless you own a big company, there's no reason for you to have a VLK (a Volume License Key - used to install a software - like OS - on large number of machines). With that said, you've probably used a stolen product key to install Windows!
If you have bought a genuine version of Windows, you should:
A) Install the correct version (OEM or Retail are DIFFERENT that the VLK version!).
B) Contact Microsoft and supply any proof of purchase. If they accept it, they should provide you an alternate legitimate product key!
Other than that, you can only "crack" the current installation... but it's ILLEGAL - and it's totally forbidden to discuss it on FixYa!
Good luck,
Pelu.
What you need to do is register by phone, they will ask you for all numbers on the COA(certificate of authenticity). Once you have a product that is registered and activated by microsoft, it should validate. The COA is the sticker with the windows key code on it, no sticker=no validation.
In the instance you cannot validate or register over the phone due to a misinformed purchase(not your fault), or a lack of sticker. You can download and install UBUNTU, a free linux based operating system. It will run OPEN OFFICE, a free open source office suite. This will get you surfing the web and creating and editing documents, at least. Oh, and yes, it does save and edit in the MS extension formats(.doc .xls etc.)
If you need a download source for open office, or ubuntu, search facebook for techsupport2u, that is my page and there are links to the download site there.
