1. On your PC, go to Start, Programs (Windows XP: All Programs), Lexmark series.
2. Select the Solution Center.
3. When the Solution Center appears, click on the Maintenance button.
4. Select the option to Install a new print cartridge. The carrier should slide over at this point and allow you to insert and/or remove cartridges.
5. Make sure the correct cartridges are installed inside the printer first, then inform the software which cartridges have been installed. Note: This applies also to installation of a single cartridge.
6. Print the Print Alignment page to ensure the print quality is satisfactory.
7. Close the Solution Center.

Changed new ink but when i print, the pages come out blank with no ink. Printing motion takes place but some how the ink done not reach the paper.

I had the same problem with my DCP 165.It simply wouldnt print. The paper was coming out but it was Blank.I had changed all the cartridges so there was no obvious issue with the ink. Then I printed a test page.It printed all the colour blocks except the black. Then i found out from Brother website that it was a problem with cleaning and after seeral cleaning cycles the printer worked fine. STEPS 1>ink management 2>Cleaning 3>Black or colour 4>OK Repeat the above process several times and try printing after that...Hope it works

Printer will not print in black. Colour ink appears to be out. Should this effect it

Yes for sure If your colour ink is down there is the possibility that the print may vary in colour. As the colour ink level decreases you might have got the error to change the ink. Hence it will tend to change the printing commands. To further confirm on this you can disconnect printer, uninstall and reinstall the printer software, then connect the printer for hardware detection and installation. now do a head cleaning maintenance and a test printing. If there is still no change it will be better to replace the colour cartridge after using the menu for ink cartridge changing so as to get the ink indication correct after installation. Hope you try this out. Good day

Won't print because color cartridge is empty and l don't need color

Try changing printing preferences/properties. Click on option for color, then click on box for "black ink only" or similar. Try now. If you still cannot print after changing preferences/properties, you will need to replace color ink cartridge due to manufacturer's built-in software that prevents printing when ink is low. Great for the ink companies!!!

Wont print black because it doesnt have color ink

So for now, you can change the print settings to only print in black.

Change the print properties/ colour to grayscale.

My black ink will not print. If I change the colour, it prints find. It is a new cartridge.

First you need to ensure that this is not a driver problem, by reinstalling drivers and testing the printer on a different computer.

Also ensure that ink cartridges are OK, try replacement inks.

If the problem is not a software problem, and the printer is recognised by computer, and the printout is coming as a blank or faded page, then you usually have a faulty or clogged printhead.

Try first performing print head cleaning procedure from printer tools, that may not fix the problem, but do the cleaning a couple of times, just in case.

If the print head is clogged, that can be fixed soaking the print head in isopropyl alcohol overnight.

If still no luck, then the printhead must be replaced, here is the part: Canon MULTI-PASS F-80 Print Head $61.00

Have changed Ink Black and Colour... Stil getting error Message.

Make sure the tape covering the hole on the bottom of the black cartridge is removed. and then go into the printers folder and right click on your printer icon and go into the properties of that printer and there should be something in there to tell it that you changed cartridges and you can also print a test page as well.
