There is a large black square in the middle of the TV screen and I don't know how to get rid of it. There is sound and picture behind the black square.

Thanks so much! The solution worked! I use two controllers because of the DV-R hookup and the DV-R controller doesn't have a Close Caption button, so I couldn't figure it out and the sensor on the TV controller is weak. Getting the controller close to the TV and pressing the CC button did the trick!

This seems Close Caption is On in your tv.
Please turn Off Close Caption by pressing CC button on tv remote.
Let me know if you have additional question, please also mention model number of tv.

I keep getting a black square in the middle of the picture. The sound stays on and the picture is behind the black square. How do I get rid of the black square for good

This is a caption for hearing impaired, grab remote! scroll down to captions, use right arrow 1,2,3,off when the cursor is flashing over the " off " press enter on the remote, that should restore the set. Some remotes have the captions on a separate button.

I have a mitsubishi vs 5059, when i open the TV I get a black square covering most of the tv but i can hear the sound and also see the picture outside of the black square. I don't know if there is an error...

You can likely buy a replacement remote here:
Remotes.com
'Universal' remotes exist only in your dreams; there is no such thing since the manufacturers cannot agree on a basic code set that would work with any set. None of them can control every function of every brand and model made.

Black screen

I have a Sharp Tv that had the same problem with a large brownish or black square right in the middle of the screen. It only left about an inch around the edges that you
could see the picture moving in behind the big black block or square.I have DISH sat-elite and the book recomending that I check and see if the "caption settings" were on
or off. They were on. I turned the caption settings off and the large square diappeared.
