Hello,Lilo The styrofoam pack MUST stay in place. When in operation the air tempature is so cold the unit will condensate(create water)if not insluated.Your unit would LEAK all over the place. The blower fan is a PLASTIC composit and should not rust.

What is the size of this unit

I think it's a 12,000 BTU.
nice direct say on it. I have this model number in my house.
If memory serves correctly it was 12000BTU on the box when i bought it.
I have it out in my garage, it still works after all these years..drips INSIDE the window now because the waterways under the unit were poorly engineered.. hard to access and too small, such that they CONSTANTLY getting plugged up like a dam, causing the tray to spill into the inside coming out the front of the unit.

The blower dosent work on my fra124ht1 frigidaire ac what can be done

If the unit is not producing any cool air, then you must see if there are replacement parts available for this unit from your manufacturer. Some units, this small, do not have many parts that can be purchased and repaired.

Is it packing or is it insulation? If packing, as in you just bought this unit and have never used it, remove it.

IS THERE SUBPOST TO BE STYROFOAM INSIDE THE AIR CONDITION, IT IS BEHIND THE FAN WHEEL, AND ON BOTH SIDES INSIDE UNIT WATER RUNS OUT THE FRONT, NOW UNIT DOES NOT TRUN ON. THANKS, DEE

Yes to the Styrofoam , If there is water running out the front of the system your drain is blocked and or the system  needs to be removed to inspect the drain tray and clean out if required.(serviced). As for it not turning on , check that the fuse isn't blown as the water may have shorted the controls wires and blown the fuse

Noise

Adding cloth or any other sound absorbing material will not work. There is not enough room to add anything appreciable in the fan area.

I spoke with the Frigaire support line 706 374-4432. They said that the large piece of styrofoam, that extends from side to side and nearly top to bottom, is part of the unit. It should not be removed.
