I am one of the lead technicians at VideoOneRepair.com. We are a repair shop that specializes in only Sony and Canon Prosumer camcorders. The problem that you are experiencing with your Sony HVR-A1U camcorder is a common problem with this model camcorder. The ribbon cable that connects the LCD screen to the main part of the camcorder goes faulty and needs to be replaced. Sony also recommends that when this cable is replaced you must also replace a modified part to prevent this from happening again. The estimate to replace both of these parts is $360.19 parts and labor. This also includes cleaning and servicing. We also offer a 6 month guarantee on the entire camcorder, not just what it was sent in for. The estimate and the return shipping are free even if you do not have the camcorder repaired. Please feel free to call, email or post any questions you have and I would be happy to respond. Sincerely, Sheryl Bahr www.VideoOneRepair.Com Sony HVR-A1U Camcorder Repair 888-283-2228

Don't have an answer, but two of our Sony HVR-A1U have now lost touch screen function. I wonder if this is a common problem?

Have been using our Sony HVR-A1U for 2 years, used it maybe 10 times in 2 years. The LCD screen buttons suddenly stopped working!! Just before a video shoot! Really really dissapointing! Can anyone help us...

The most likely cause for this is a damaged or defective flexible ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the camera body and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Black LCD and out of focus

My LCD screen has also malfunctioned - some-one else has also posted a similar problem and has been told its to do with a carbon cable connecting the LCD screen to the camera that needs replacing.
Not sure about the viewfinder problem - is there a control to adjust the focus, or is that what you mean by the viewfinder lever?
