I've been given an old aluminum West Bend ''Serving Oven'' bun warmer - with bakelite handles?? - and need instruction as to how to use it. Can I use it in the stove or oven to heat it up, and to what degree in order not to damage the handles?
Thank you. KM

I have one of those that I got as a wedding gift from my parents in 1975. They were popular then. My mother had always come out with nicely warmed buns, but when my wife and I tried to use ours, our buns were soggy--from too much water, I guess. You have to use it on top of the stove, not in the oven. Try putting in about a half-inch of water and put in the middle piece. If it floats, then you have too much water. Put the buns inside, place the lid on, and put it on low heat for 2-3 minutes. You can regulate how soft or crisp the bun would be by opening the steam vent for more crispy bread, or closing it for it to be more moist. You can experiment with it, but yes, you DO need to use it on TOP of the stove.~ Barry
I have one of these by West Bend and my mother always used one. You put only a very small amt of water in the bottom, no higher than the small rim in the bottom. Put in the liner and add your buns and cover. Heat on top of the stove over very low heat and feel top of warmer periodically to see if it is warm. It should be quite warm when buns are heated. You have to try it a few times to see how hot the top should be when they are warm. There is a vent on the top. You can open it to let steam escape so they won't be soggy.

I have one too I have the instructions and you put it on top the stove NO WATER. use med to low heat only. The air heats and the space between the inner pan(with the holes) and the outer pan acts like a oven. I use mine for heating cookies, crisping chips and it is great to crisp and heat corn chips. I also heat bread/buns. Regina
I was happy to read your answer, Kellsie, because I recently bought mine from a junktique store and had NO clue. Definitely thought water would be used. Good to know that is not the case. Thanks for your help!
I did what you said to do and it worked perfectly. Thanks so much for the information. My buns were wonderful. ;)

I own two of these and would never be without them. I agree with Kellsie, do not use water. You can use this to warm anything, even meat, a jar of coconut oil or honey. They are amazing. You can also use it with just a paper towel over it for french fries. If the top is used they get soggy. Pay attention to how much condensation there is under the lid and you will have happy food.
