Leaks at bottom

Leaking water from bottom of unit during brewing:

• Verify that the water is leaking from the bottom of the coffee maker and not just running down the back during filling and pooling underneath. (Look under coffee maker - without lifting - to see if water droplets are hanging from bottom of unit)

How old is your coffee maker? Is it under warranty?

Inspect the strainer basket's valve to make sure it is not blocked and working properly. You should be able to test it in the sink, fill with water and push the valve up from underneath. Tap the valve a few times to loosen any debris that might be blocking it.

Make sure the pot is fully in place on the warming plate. The lid must align properly with the strainer basket to open the valve adequately. If the pot lid is not touching the strainer basket valve, you may have the wrong pot or the strainer basket is not seated into the coffeemaker correctly. Check for obstructions underneath the strainer basket. Then, make sure the rounded projection aligns with the notch in the coffeemaker near the reservoir.

Be careful! The top will soon disconnect from the bottom! I've had the same problem for the last few months. This morning (11/19/10) the top of the pot seperated when I poured a cup of coffee and half a pot of piping hot coffee spilled down my right leg. I'm on hold with their customer service department as I type this. Has anybody else had the same issue?

There are many possible points that the leak can be.

All points of the water supply from water tank to the pressure pump then to boiler and finally to coffee group. All this are connected together with plastic or Teflon pipes with easy fit unions secure with clips

You need to disassemble the machine and work it without the side panels of course with extra care since power electrical cables are exposed.

In this way with a very good visual check while the machine is in operation you can identify the leaking point and fix it.

If it leaks DURING brewing, you may have to decalcify it (aka, run through a cycle of 4 cups vinegar, fill to the top with water, 2-3 times and see if it helps).
If it leaks before you even start brewing a pot of coffee, something is broken on the inside of the coffee maker, and I would recommend contacting Waring--they may be able to get you a replacement coffee maker (and if you're under warranty, usually a replacement would be free!).

Call bunn for replacement gasket free of charge per recall.

Remove the grind chamber.
There is a black plastic pice sticking up in the area underneath where the grind chamber would sit. Lift it up, and you will see it is sort of like a hatch. It is probably clogged with coffee grinds.
Go ahead and clear out this chute, and see if it resolves the problem.

What's happening is that it isn't leaking, it's boiling over. You need to turn down the thermostat under the top lid. Also, before you brew coffee, add water to the tank and let it pour into an empty pot. Once it stops brewing, let it heat up for a few minutes then make your pot of coffee.

We were unable to find a coffee pot that fit this model after it was broken so my roomate devised a solution to make it work in the meantime. He took the little plastic tab that closes off a bag of bread and used it under the filter in the filter cup to clip around the devise that holds the brewer open and let the coffee pour out below. Then we used a four cup Pyrex measuring cup underneath to catch the coffee. The first time I tried this without the device the coffee flooded out of the pot and all over the sink and not in the Pyrex because I didn't realize the previous pot held this device open. Just remember to let it finish brewing because it doesn't shut off when you remove the pot once you rig this up. A paper clip might work also. Good Luck!
